The New­town­moun­tkennedy Com­mu­nity Fun Day is on this Sun­day, Au­gust 18, at the Com­mu­nity Grounds (pitches be­side com­mu­nity cen­tre) 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Join us for a fun filled day for ev­ery­one with a bar­be­cue, Mini World Cup Fi­nals, RAF­FLE, Tug of War, RSA Shut­tle, Card Read­ings, Dog Show, JoJo Byrne Cup and lots more. See you there.


The Fo­rum will take a break for Au­gust and re­turn the last Tues­day in Sep­tem­ber at 7.30 p.m. in New­town­moun­tkennedy Com­mu­nity Cen­tre. Well we have to hand it to our com­mu­nity, for they showed up to our an­nual Men’s Shed open day on Satur­day last to show a mar­velous sup­port to our mem­bers, in do­ing so they again pur­chased work done in our work shop such as flower planters, nest­ing boxes, and many nov­elty gar­den items, while tour­ing our al­lot­ments, and game rooms etc, all in all a great show of appreciati­on by our com­mu­nity, so thank you one and all for your con­tin­ued sup­port.

To or­gan­ise such a day we could not have done so with­out the fol­low­ing help, John Sin­nott/ Far­relly bros. (meat), Hugh Kennedy (print­ing) John Hamil­ton (car park prepa­ra­tion) Parkview Ho­tel (bar­be­cue) our shed pres­i­dent James Carroll for the use of his frontal prop­erty (tea, and toi­lets) and for his ad­join­ing field for car park­ing. We also recog­nise the hard work car­ried out by mem­bers who serve the peo­ple of the com­mu­nity on the day, es­pe­cially the wash­ing up etc silently car­ried out by hus­band and wife team An­thony and Mar­garet Doyle, many thanks to you all.

All the mem­bers also wish a speedy re­turn to health of mem­bers Tom and Mick, may your teacups, although cold at the mo­ment, soon feel the warmth of that cher­ish­ing liq­uid which we all en­joy.


There have been a dis­ap­point­ing run of re­sults in the cham­pi­onship, New­town have two matches left to play, the next is sched­uled for Sun­day the 18th against Ark­low in Aughrim, throw in is sched­uled for 11 a.m. New­town need to win the next two matches to avoid rel­e­ga­tion play­off. The ju­niors bat­tled hard but lost out to Carnew on a score of 1-9 v 2-8 last Thurs­day They’ll look to get their cham­pi­onship back on track as they take on Avoca this Thurs­day at home.

Well done to New­town GAA three mi­nor play­ers Seán Gre­gory Seán Carthy and Ken­neth Turner, who togged out for the county team in the Matty Forde Tour­na­ment in Wex­ford on Au­gust 3 win­ning three out of five matches and claim­ing the shield. Well done lads the draw for all-Ire­land Hurl­ing tick­ets is this Thurs­day, Au­gust 15. €5 to en­ter. Mem­bers only. Names to James Kelly or Robert Nolan. This week’s lotto stood at €4,400, num­bers drawn were 8, 12, 14 and 24. Please sup­port the club.


Calling all bas­ket­ball play­ers – a group of women meet ev­ery Fri­day evening to play five aside bas­ket­ball. We are cur­rently on our hol­i­days but are think­ing of the bowl­ing new year start­ing Sep­tem­ber 2. We are a thriv­ing club tak­ing part in com­pe­ti­tions through­out the year. We meet twice a week Mon­days and Wed­nes­day in the com­mu­nity cen­tre. We al­ways wel­come new mem­bers. If you would like any fur­ther in­for­ma­tion contact Jim at 086 4017218.


We meet ev­ery Fri­day at 11 a.m. in the Parkview Ho­tel New­town­moun­tkennedy. It is an op­por­tu­nity for fam­ily mem­bers and car­ers to bring their loved ones for a cof­fee and a chat.


Heavy rain that fell over last week­end put paid to a num­ber of our team’s games. Our un­der-nine and 10 teams did how­ever see ac­tion de­spite a num­ber of play­ers been un­avail­able due to hol­i­days.

Our un­der-9s played away to Grey­stones Red and they put in one of their best dis­plays of the sea­son on the day. Among the best play­ers on the day for New­town were Colin Healy, Conor Shevlin and Rory O’Gor­man. Our un­der-10s trav­elled to Tul­ly­lusk to take on Avonmore FC and af­ter a ti­tanic bat­tle they edged out the home side 5-4 in a nine goal thriller. Leon O’Connor helped him­self to a hat trick while Alex Ryan and Nathan McMa­hon helped them­selves to a goal each. On the day best for New­town were Felix Geoghe­gan, Ryan McDon­ald and Len­non McGuin­ness.

The New­town­moun­tkennedy Area group is host­ing a Com­mu­nity Fun Day for Sun­day, Au­gust 18, where all clubs and or­gan­i­sa­tions in the area are in­vited to take part with some form of ac­tiv­ity or event. We as a club will be or­gan­is­ing some­thing that will in­volve all the kids of the area. The Fun Day will run from 1 p.m. till 5 p.m. in the Com­mu­nity Grounds and there will be some­thing for ev­ery­one. As part of the event we will be run­ning our an­nual Mini World Cup, with all fi­nals tak­ing place on the day of the Fun Day.

Com­pe­ti­tion de­tails are as fol­lows: Mini World Cup (Kindly spon­sored by Grey­stones and Dis­trict Credit Union) Date: Fri. Au­gust 16. Un­der-12/13’s from 6 p.m. till 7.15 p.m. un­der-10/11’s from 7 p.m. till 8.15 p.m. Sat. Au­gust 17 – un­der-sev­ens from 10 a.m. till 11.15 a.m. and un­der-eights/9’s from 11 a.m. till 12.15 p.m. All fi­nals will take place on Sun­day, Au­gust 18, from 1.15 p.m. Ex­act timetable, fix­tures and re­sults will all be posted on our Face­book and Twit­ter pages. All play­ers are asked to ar­rive in plenty of time for their matches as late­ness causes un­nec­es­sary de­lays. Age Groups: un­der-sev­ens (play­ers born 2012-2014/15) un­der-eights and 9’s (play­ers born 2010 and 2011) un­der-10s and 11’s (play­ers born in 2008 and 2009) un­der-12s and 13’s (play­ers born 2006 and 2007) €5 per player to par­tic­i­pate *# Tiny Tots game chil­dren for three-year-olds and un­der #(Dead­line for reg­is­tra­tion was Mon­day, Au­gust 12, at 6 p.m.)

We only have one player from the club celebratin­g his birthday in the com­ing week and he is un­der-11 star de­fender Aaron Roy. Happy birthday Aaron from all at New­town Ju­niors FC.
