Unfortunately due to the weather alert last Thursday the fireworks event had to be postponed on health and safety grounds. Heavy rain poured throughout the night and the event would have been a wash out.

The event has been rescheduled to Thursday, August 22. The evening will kick off at 8.30 p.m. on the Market Square with music by DJ Albert. At 9.45 p.m. the Fireworks Display will take place in the Parnell Memorial Park followed by more music and dancing in the Market Square till 10.30 p.m. Hopefully the weather does not hamper the event again. Everyone welcome. Hosted by the Rathdrum Development Association.

Planning is well under way for the judging for the National Enterprise town awards which takes place on September 30 in Rathdrum. The aim of this competition is to promote enterprise by bringing business and community groups together to showcase the spirit of enterprise in the local area.

A number of local people and members of Arklow Municipal district and Wicklow County council have been working together to prepare, the first event will be the launch night on August 22, this will be hosted by Avon Motors. Letters have been sent to local businesses and community groups so we really hope there will be a large attendance on the night, this will be a chance to bring everyone together to showcase our town. A weather warning and the holiday season conspired to reduce numbers to 15 brave souls on Thursday last for our walk of Trooperstown Hill. A very grey and breezy evening ended with the promised rain, on a changed and slightly shortened circuit, but did not dampen the enthusiasm of the group.

This week brings us to the Mottee Stone near Avoca. Meet as usual in Rathdrum at the Memorial Park for 7 p.m. (although this meeting point may change if the Firework Display is rearranged for that night). A message will be sent out if required on the day. Walk will start at 7.20 p.m.

Please note that the annual Cardwithphotosofour2018season is also now ready. Please ask if you haven’t already received one.
