WALK TO THE DESERTED VILLAGE
As part of her An Tochar Oscarz fundraising drive, Fiona O’Mahoney will lead a guided walk to the deserted village at 10 a.m. Starting from the little car park on the Lough Dan end of the Green Road, walkers will follow the path to the deserted village and return via a short diversion to take in stunning views. Refreshments will be served afterwards. The cost is €10 per person (under-18s go free) and a raffle will also be held.
RUN THE RIDGE
Those brave enough to ‘Run the Ridge’ face a choice between a 20km mixed mountain and train run, a 10km trail run and a junior race. The race, which is a fundraiser for Laragh GAA Club and organised in conjunction with Glendalough Athletics Club, will see the 20k runners tackle the Derrybawn Ridge while the 10k runners will head through Derrybawn Woods. Both events start and finish at Laragh GAA grounds, where a prize-giving will also be held. Entry to the 20k, which begins at 12.30 p.m., is €25
while entry to the 10k, which starts at 1 p.m., is €20.
The campaigners for the community pool for west Wicklow will be celebrating the campaign’s first birthday will a party in the hippodrome at Russborough House from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. This is a free, family event and will have music, dancing, games, balloons, face-painting and, of course, cake.
SPORTS REGISTRATION DAY
An afternoon to encourage people to sign up for sports clubs in Arklow. From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Bridgewater Shopping Centre.
JADE’S GLITTER BALL
This special ball takes place at 7 p.m. in the Park View Hotel, Newtownmountkennedy, to help raise funds for young Greystones woman Jade McCann. Jade is battling an incurable stage four pecoma cancer and all funds raised will go to her treatment, transport and any other support services.
