GARDAÍ in Arklow set up a number of checkpoints in Aughrim over the weekend. Local uniform and detective units were involved and were supported by members of the Regional Armed Support Unit. A vehicle that appeared to turn from a checkpoint in Aughrim was later stopped and a small quantity of drugs recovered.
A garda spokesperson said, ‘a number of checkpoints and proactive patrols were carried out in the Aughrim sub-district over the last four days as part of the District’s campaign to increase high visibility anti-crime patrols in the area. Local Uniform and Detective units performing checkpoints were backed up by members of the Regional Support Unit. One vehicle that appeared to turn away from a checkpoint in Aughrim was stopped soon after and a small quantity of drugs were recovered.’
