Garda check­points

GAR­DAÍ in Ark­low set up a num­ber of check­points in Aughrim over the week­end. Lo­cal uni­form and de­tec­tive units were in­volved and were sup­ported by mem­bers of the Re­gional Armed Sup­port Unit. A ve­hi­cle that ap­peared to turn from a check­point in Aughrim was later stopped and a small quan­tity of drugs re­cov­ered.

A garda spokesper­son said, ‘a num­ber of check­points and proac­tive pa­trols were car­ried out in the Aughrim sub-district over the last four days as part of the District’s cam­paign to in­crease high vis­i­bil­ity anti-crime pa­trols in the area. Lo­cal Uni­form and De­tec­tive units per­form­ing check­points were backed up by mem­bers of the Re­gional Sup­port Unit. One ve­hi­cle that ap­peared to turn away from a check­point in Aughrim was stopped soon af­ter and a small quan­tity of drugs were re­cov­ered.’
