A magical football day
THERE was fun and games galore at the St Peter’s mini world cup last weekend.
The event started with eight teams, four in each group. After three games each, Holland topped Group A with Mexico making it through to the play offs on goal difference. Poland topped Group B with Belgium coming a close second. These four teams entered into the playoffs for the World Cup, Holland made it first beating Belgium, Poland followed not long after beating Mexico. The Final was Holland vs Poland with Holland taking the victory with a 3-2 win.
It was then up Brazil, Italy, Ireland and Spain to play for the shield. After two matches, It was Brazil vs Ireland in the final. Brazil took the win.
‘Our Mini World Cup was held on Sunday and the support we received was amazing,’ said Linda Flanagan. ‘With over 50 children participating in the tournament, to the managers, parents, sponsors, volunteers and wider community.
‘We would also like to thank all the businesses in Bray and surrounding areas for donating and helping us out with raffle prizes, Thank you to The Irish Coast Guard and Bray Fire Service for coming and putting on a demonstration for us, and John Brady TD for supporting us as always.
‘There was also a Funday on which was a great success. There was Bouncy castles, BBQ, Bingo, Spin The Wheel, Hook A Duck and so much more.
‘We are blown away by the support of the community’.
