A mag­i­cal foot­ball day

THERE was fun and games galore at the St Peter’s mini world cup last week­end.

The event started with eight teams, four in each group. Af­ter three games each, Hol­land topped Group A with Mex­ico mak­ing it through to the play offs on goal dif­fer­ence. Poland topped Group B with Bel­gium com­ing a close sec­ond. These four teams en­tered into the play­offs for the World Cup, Hol­land made it first beat­ing Bel­gium, Poland fol­lowed not long af­ter beat­ing Mex­ico. The Fi­nal was Hol­land vs Poland with Hol­land tak­ing the vic­tory with a 3-2 win.

It was then up Brazil, Italy, Ire­land and Spain to play for the shield. Af­ter two matches, It was Brazil vs Ire­land in the fi­nal. Brazil took the win.

‘Our Mini World Cup was held on Sun­day and the sup­port we re­ceived was amaz­ing,’ said Linda Flana­gan. ‘With over 50 chil­dren par­tic­i­pat­ing in the tour­na­ment, to the man­agers, par­ents, spon­sors, vol­un­teers and wider community.

‘We would also like to thank all the busi­nesses in Bray and sur­round­ing ar­eas for do­nat­ing and help­ing us out with raf­fle prizes, Thank you to The Ir­ish Coast Guard and Bray Fire Ser­vice for com­ing and putting on a demon­stra­tion for us, and John Brady TD for sup­port­ing us as al­ways.

‘There was also a Fun­day on which was a great suc­cess. There was Bouncy cas­tles, BBQ, Bingo, Spin The Wheel, Hook A Duck and so much more.

‘We are blown away by the sup­port of the community’.
