Wicklow town side have too much firepower for AGB
A scoring frenzy took place in the first round of the Wicklow Senior Ladies Championship clash between St Patrick’s and AGB in Pearse’s Park, Arklow, last weekend.
St Pat’s hit the opening point of the game through full-forward Laura Manley and from the resulting kick-out AGB made their way up the pitch and levelled the game through wing forward Ann Marie Keegan.

Robert Hollingsworth’s forwards were on fire from the word go hitting score after score from play. The opening score of this frenzy came from corner-forward Emer McNulty.
With the Pat’s defence being on top, the ball kept coming into the forward line and this resulted in three more points from play, two coming in quick succession from corner-forward Clodagh Fox.
Centre forward Niamh Caffrey burst through the defence and slotted over the bar to extend the lead.
Pats then hit over there first dead ball of the game through midfielder Sarah Delahunt.
With the lead getting wider with nearly every attack, St Pat’s then managed to find the back of the net after some great team play which resulted in wing forward Orla Redmond firing home from close range.
Fox and Manley added two more scores from play before the lively Fox fired the ball into the back of the AGB net to basically finish the game off.
As the game was nearing half time AGB went on the attack looking for scores and against the run of play corner-forward Jessie McElehron managed to get her foot on the ball around the square which resulted the ball going into the net. Delahunt added another free to finish the scoring in the opening half.
With a few positional changes at the break, AGB flew out of the blocks straight from the throw in. Ann Marie Keegan drove through the Pats defence she laid it off to Orla Byrne who calmly slotted it into the back of the net.
AGB hit two frees in quick succession through Georgie Canavan and Aine O’Reilly this reduced the St Pat’s lead to six points.
After that initial opening scoring salvo, St Pat’s made their way back into the game, scoring at will again to finish off the contest.
St Patrick’s midfielder Sarah Delahunt really came to the fore at this point, firing over three frees and a fine long-range point.
Redmond added another point in the middle of Delahunt’s scoring spree. St Pat’s were very clinical in this game, with Manley getting her first score of the second half before midfielder Jess Lyons opened her account with another score from play.
The away side hit their third goal of the game through substitute Niamh McGettigan who fired into the roof of the net from 21 yards.
Redmond dissected the posts again from play before Delahunt fired over another free. AGB fired over one last consolation score through Byrne again.
