Long wait for Leaving Cert results ends

Wicklow People (West Edition) - - NEWS - By EIMEAR DODD

THE long wait for students came to an end last Tuesday with the release of the Leaving Certificate results.

1,602 people in the garden county were among around 59,000 students nationwide who had sat the final state exams in June. The Leaving Certificate results mark the end of their secondary school experience. For some, it was a happy day but others may have not have been as pleased with their results.

Among those who collected their results were the 78 students from St Kevin’s Community College in Dunlavin. Principal Brian Doran said the school was ‘very happy with the results. They are a testament to the hard work of students and the dedication of parents and teachers. We had nine students complete the Leaving Certificate Applied Programme and they achieved excellent results in their exams and assessments.’

The Leaving Cert results were released one day earlier than usual as part of a process to streamline the appeals process. This was also the first year that students could check their exam results online. Some schools around Wicklow reported that some students chose to access their results online. However, many continued to visit the school to collect their exam results.

Last Thursday, students in the county received first round offers for third level and further education courses through the CAO system. Over 51,000 students nationwide received first round offers on the day.
