Murphy in majestic form

BARNDARRIG secured a onepoint victory over Baltinglass in their Fitzgerald Kitchens Junior A Football Championship encounter last Saturday evening in Avondale after a decent battle between two footballing sides.

Key to Barndarrig’s victory was the performance of Michael Murphy who dominated proceedings for the Kilmacurra men.

For Baltinglass it was Jack Timmons who inflicted most of the damage but the Slaneysiders just couldn’t catch the Barndarrig men when it came to the crunch and they ran out one-point winners in the end.

The result leaves Barndarrig in top spot in the Group 2 table, one point ahead of An Tochar who defeated St Patrick’s in Newcastle on Frdiay night.

Baltinglass are safely into the quarter-finals with five points to their name after four games even though St Pat’s are theoretically within reach of them.

Baltinglass face a tricky clash with An Tochar on Friday, September 13, in their last group game but regardless of the result of the St Pat’s v Éire Óg game the head to head will mean that Baltinglass are through.
