Tinahely go score crazy
LAST week, in their home game against An Tochar, Tinahely struggled to score at all in the first half.
This week they played host to Kiltegan in their final Junior ‘B’ football championship group game and they had no scoring problem in the first period as they accumulated an extraordinary 6-8 to 0-0 against the side against the Carlow border men.
David Blake, the Tinahely full-forward, had a great first half during which he could do no wrong and he reached the halfway mark with a personal tally of 2-3 to his credit. He completed his hat-trick of goals in the early minutes of the second half when he guided a flicked on pass from David Dillon past the unfortunate Ciaran O’Toole between the posts.
O’Toole must have felt the whole world was his enemy as the Tinahely attack shot for goals whenever the opportunity presented.
He even made a great save from a Padraig Murphy penalty shot only to see David Blake plant the rebound in the net.
Tinahely set the tone straight from the beginning and with Fionn Furlong and Niall Gorman establishing a firm midfield grip the flow of play was only one way. The half-backs Jamie Cullen, Raymond McGlynn and Colm Kenny were in constant support.
With David Dillon at centre forward linking up and pulling the strings, the scores began to flow. Kiltegan battled hard in the early stages but to little avail as they were overwhelmed on the night.
Padraig Farrell and Gavin Keogh did what they could to keep the ship afloat. The half-time score stood at 6-8 to 0-0.
The second half tempo dropped off considerably as the Tinahely goal fest dried up, but they went on to score 1-7.
They brought on all their subs at half-time and early in the second half. Jamie Daly and John O’Connor scored the two Kiltegan points, but this was not Kiltegan’s night. To their credit they kept on playing the whole way before referee Stephan Fagan brought proceedings to an end.
