There was plenty of onfield action last weekend. Only team not to play a game were the 10’s as their opponent was unable to field.

Our under-8s hosted Arklow United Stripes and both teams played some very good football. On the day Eoin Ledwidge scored his first ever goal while he, Tommy Ryan and Reece Kearns were among the star performers.

Our under-9s were supposed to be idle but a game was arranged versus Glencormac United and we thank them for arranging the game but I have no details on the match as no one from the 9’s were in touch.

Our under-11s were far from their best at home to Arklow United Stars as they went down to a 2-1 defeat. Max Roche scored the Newtown goal.

The under-12s won 6-2 away to Enniskerry B in the league where Cathal O’Toole scored two goals. The other goals from Cormac Chance, Keira Farrelly, Dayle Carthy and an OG.

The under-13s (Kindly sponsored by Adrian Dunne Pharmacy) narrowly lost away (3-1) in the Plate to Avonmore B the team minus a couple of key players gave it their all but the story of the game was missing chances. The good thing is that the team is creating the chances, they just need to put them away now. Max Synnott scored an excellent goal for Newtown from a free kick and he along with Aaron Cawley, Aaron Hackett and Jamie Fitzgerald were among those players who starred.

The following are the fixtures for the week Saturday/Sunday August 31/September 1: under-8s away to St Anthony’s Yellow ko Saturday at 10 a.m.; under-9s away to St Patrick’s ko Sunday at 11.30 a.m.; under-10s away to Arklow Town White ko to be confirmed; under-11s away to Shillelagh Navy ko Saturday at 11 a.m.; under-12s away to Avonmore FC ko to be confirmed; under-13s away to Carnew F.C.ko Saturday to be confirmed (Cup second Leg) (Fixtures and KO Times are subject to change)

Two players from the club will celebrate their birthdays in the coming week and they are Peter Heffernan from the Development Squad and Adam Doyle from the under-8s. Happy birthday lads from all at Newtown Juniors FC.

Our ever popular fundraiser ‘Last Man Standing’ will get its first outing this season in September (date to be confirmed). The cost is €10 per head and all money raised go towards the youth of the area.
