LAUNCH NIGHT A SUCCESS
Thanks to everyone who attended the launch night for Rathdrum’s entry to National Enterprise Town Awards. It was great to see such a large attendance from both the business and community groups.
Denis Carter was MC for the evening which started with Meabh Litton, bank of Ireland, explaining what the NETA are and plans for Rathdrum’s entry, followed by Claire Lawless from Arklow Municipal District giving an over view of why Rathdrum was nominated. Guest speaker was John Horan from Blessington, who spoke about what Blessington did and the benefits and new beginnings winning Leinster in 2017 brough.
Cllr Pat Kennedy spoke of the huge investment in Rathdrum in the past few years from tourism, housing, public realm and private and how being nominated is an acknowledgment of how Rathdrum is developing.
It was a lovely evening of networking along with many people pledging their support to ensure that Rathdrum’s entry is a success. Special note of thanks to Denis Carter and his family who hosted this event in Avon Motors.
Forty walkers turned up on Thursday last for the circuit of the Jubliee Loop in Rathdrum. On one of the balmiest evenings of the summer everyone agreed on how enjoyable it had been, particularly the stretch by the river.
Sadly this week is the last walk of the season. After 21 different walks we finish with the traditional Whaley Abbey Circuit. Starting point for the walk is in Ballinaclash. Start time for the walk is the earlier time of 6.45. For anyone who doesn’t know the way please wait beside Phelans Pub and you will be directed to the start. As is also traditional we will finish with tea and buns at walks end to sign off for the season.
As there has never been a charge for the walks, a collection box will be left for walkers to contribute to a local charity instead. Once again this year the nominated charity is Rathdrum Cancer Support Group. If any walkers can’t make the start but would like to join the group for the cuppa at the end please feel free to come along. Hope to see you all there.
