Prepa­ra­tions are pro­gress­ing nicely for our sec­ond vin­tage day which will be held on Sun­day, Septem­ber 8, in Cool­gre­any. It was de­cided at a re­cent meet­ing that the club would sup­port St Ai­dan’s Day Care Cen­tre Gorey, and some of our lo­cal com­mu­nity groups.

An ex­tra num­ber of new events will be in­cluded this year, in­clud­ing bas­ket mak­ing ex­hi­bi­tion, also but­ter mak­ing. The vin­tage area will in­clude steam en­gines, vin­tage trac­tors and cars, clas­si­cal cars, thresh­ing, pet farm, dog show, bouncy cas­tle, among a num­ber of other events. A great fam­ily day is promised, with mu­sic by Stacey Breen and also Hardy Bucks through the af­ter­noon.

Also in­cluded is a mon­ster raf­fle with some very valu­able prizes avail­able, with tick­ets on sale at present. Come along for a great day of en­ter­tain­ment guar­an­teed.


Con­grat­u­la­tions to all the stu­dents in our area who have achieved so much suc­cess in their re­cent ex­ams, and we wish them all ev­ery suc­cess in the fu­ture.


A Gala Night with the Stars in aid of St Ai­dan’s Day Cen­tre takes place in Gorey Lit­tle Theatre on Fri­day, Au­gust 30, at 8 p.m. The night will show­case many lo­cal artists per­form­ing clas­si­cal and trad pieces, Com­edy Sketch, Ir­ish and mod­ern dances, ceili, Recita­tions, songs and some­thing for ev­ery­one. Deep­est sym­pa­thy of all our lo­cal com­mu­nity is ex­tended to Bid Murphy, Croghan View on the re­cent death of her brother Patsy Byrne, Camolin, whose burial took place in the lo­cal ceme­tery af­ter Mass in Camolin Church on Fri­day, Au­gust 16. RIP.


Con­grat­u­la­tions and good wishes to So­phie Bres­lin, Ki­lahurler, who will cel­e­brate her sixth birth­day on Wed­nes­day, Au­gust 28.

The Keep Wex­ford Beau­ti­ful Com­pe­ti­tion is on at present and also the Hous­ing Es­tates Com­pe­ti­tion, our com­mit­tee are look­ing for all the help they can get to­gether, and if any res­i­dents have a bit of spare time, as our Chief Gar­diner is out sick at present and she is sorely missed.

It is that time of year again when ad­ju­di­ca­tion of the Tidy Towns Com­pe­ti­tion is tak­ing place and the lo­cal com­mit­tee are ap­peal­ing for the sup­port of as many as pos­si­ble to help with the clean­ing up of all the roads around the vil­lage and in the vil­lage it­self to help im­prove the area. Don’t for­get this is Tidy Towns Month, and any sup­port would be ap­pre­ci­ated by the com­mit­tee.


At the re­quest of some mem­bers of the group a trip to the Na­tional Plough­ing Cham­pi­onship has been ar­ranged for Wed­nes­day, Septem­ber 18, at a cost of €20 Bus only, ad­mis­sion for the event payable on the gate on the day.

A be­gin­ners art class has been ar­ranged, com­menc­ing on Wed­nes­day, Septem­ber 25, at 10.30 a.m. in the Pres­by­te­rian church hall on the Dublin road, the course will run for eight weeks, with a break over Hal­loween, cost €60 which in­cludes all ma­te­ri­als is now fully booked.

Our hol­i­day to Sligo from Oc­to­ber 6 to Oc­to­ber 10, still has a few places re­main­ing. De­posit of €20 on booking and full pay­ment be­fore end of Au­gust,
