Cel­e­brat­ing 160 years of St Mary’s Church: This Septem­ber will be a very spe­cial oc­ca­sion for St Mary’s Church, Enniskerry as it cel­e­brates 160 years. Plans for this oc­ca­sion are well un­der way with a num­ber of events planned in­clud­ing a his­tory talk by Michael Seery on Fri­day the 20th en­ti­tled ‘Fr Thomas O’Dwyer and the build­ing of his church at Enniskerry’, a Flower Fes­ti­val and a spe­cial Fam­ily Mass to be held on Sun­day, Septem­ber 22.

Meet­ings of the Enniskerry His­tory So­ci­ety, which meets un­der the guid­ance of its pres­i­dent John Cal­lan, are sched­uled to re­sume on Thurs­day, Oc­to­ber 10, in the au­tumn.

In the mean­time events two events tak­ing place today (Wed­nes­day) which may be of in­ter­est to mem­bers and sup­port­ers are a free ‘sum­mer Public Tour’ at 2 p.m. in the Mu­seum of Dec­o­ra­tive Arts and His­tory, Collins Bar­racks, Dublin seven, dur­ing which at­ten­dees will learn about the his­tory of Collins Bar­racks, from the 1700s to the present day and its tran­si­tion from Bar­racks to Mu­seum, tak­ing in some of the high­lights from the Mu­seum’s mil­i­tary his­tory or dec­o­ra­tive arts ex­hi­bi­tions. Ad­mis­sion free, places al­lo­cated on a first-come ba­sis 15 min­utes be­fore the tour starts; and as part of the Dun Laoghaire Rath­down County Coun­cil sum­mer of Her­itage, Rob Good­body will present his talk ‘Boot­er­stown, the town of the Road’ at 7 p.m. in Mar­lay House, Mar­lay Park, Rath­farn­ham, Co. Dublin. Ad­mis­sion free but pre-booking re­quired via dl­rher­itageevent­[email protected]­r­coco.ie.

Some of the ma­te­rial from the ‘F. M. O’Flana­gan: Recorder of Dalkey’ ex­hi­bi­tion held in the Lex­i­con ear­lier this year, based on his re­cently do­nated extensive ar­chive ma­te­ri­als, will be on dis­play in Dalkey Li­brary till this Satur­day.
