Mary steps back from craft fair

Wicklow People (West Edition) - - NEWS -

It was the ‘end of an era’ this weekend as Arklow woman Mary Whelan organised the town’s monthly craft fair for the final time.

Earlier in the summer, the well-known local artist announced that she would step away from the role due to health reasons. Mary has been running the monthly showcase of Arklow’s creative makers for five years.

Speaking before the event, Mary said ‘I’ll still be involved and plan to take a stall, but in one sense it’s the end of an era for me.’

Held in the Bridgewater Shopping Centre on the first Sunday of the month, the fair features knitted goods, candles, wood-turning, painting and photography produced locally.

‘I’ve met so many skilled people through organising the fair and I hope to continue to take part. I want to thank the management and staff of the Bridgewater Shopping Centre for all their support and help over the years,’ Mary added.

It is hoped the craft fair will continue under a new organiser, but a decision has yet to be made.
