School wel­comes first year stu­dents

On Mon­day, Au­gust 26, Scoil Chonglais wel­comed 96 first year stu­dents through its doors.

The Prin­ci­pal Ms Gurhy and the first year, Year Head Mr Dolan ad­dressed the stu­dents giv­ing them an over­view of life in sec­ondary school.

The four classes were then in­tro­duced to their class tu­tors who worked with the stu­dents to fa­mil­iarise them with their new timeta­bles for the year ahead. At morn­ing break the stu­dents en­joyed a snack in the school canteen, so­cial­is­ing with fa­mil­iar faces and some new ones too.

The fol­low­ing work­shops were or­gan­ised for the re­main­der of the morn­ing; Ef­fec­tive use of the school Jour­nal (Ms Gaskin), Well­be­ing (Mr Dolan), Study Skills (Mr McMullin) fol­lowed by sixth year Meitheal stu­dent lead­ers tak­ing the stu­dents on a tour of the school. The Meitheal stu­dent team also fa­cil­i­tated some fun games to help the first years in get­ting to know each other and to set­tle in to their new school en­vi­ron­ment.
