RESIDENTS OF Palermo, Fassaroe, and the Dargle have been left angered by Wicklow County Council’s decision to stop the monthly mobile recycling unit at St Peter’s Church.

On August 16 without warning Wicklow County Council stopped the service that is used by hundreds of residents on the first and third Saturdays of each month.

Wicklow County Council have stated that they discontinued the service because there is a permanent recycling unit at the Boghall Road for the people of Bray.

‘Our resources have to be concentrated and because there is an alternative now in Bray we felt the mobile service could be taken away from Bray and used in another part of the county.’

Many residents who use the mobile unit are elderly and would find access to the Boghall Road difficult.

‘This service is used by so many and will be greatly missed.

‘The Boghall Road is simply too far away for some residents to get to,’ said Owen Gallagher a local resident.

‘I don’t understand why they are taking it away when a recent survey to determine the viability of the service has shown that it is a resounding success.’

Bray Town Council have acknowledged that they will continue the service for the month of September 2008, and after that the Council will make a decision on the service.
