Permission granted for age-friendly houses in Donard
PERMISSION has been granted for the construction of age friendly living houses as part of six blocks of semi detached houses in Donard.
The applicant Ted Flynn lodged a planing application with Wicklow County Council in April. The local authority sought some additional information in May, before deciding to grant the development permission.
The blocks of semi detached single story houses will be used exclusively as age friendly houses. There will be twelve houses in all, with each block comprising of one bedroom unit and one two bedroom unit. Permission was also sought for the construction of site entrance, internal access roads, footpaths, connection to existing foul sewer, proposed surface water and watermain services, parking and open space areas necessary to serve the development permitted in 2017 and the new development and all associated site works at Donard Demesne. In 2017 permission was granted for the development at Macdonald Demesne West consisting of a single storey nursing home with 60 beds and eight dormer houses which consist of four sets of semi detached dormers.
Cllr Edward Timmins feels the development will be a welcome addition.
‘I welcome the news. More of these sort of age friendly buildings need to be built. It facilitates independent living for elderly people. This announcement is good news for everyone.’
