Per­mis­sion granted for age-friendly houses in Donard

PER­MIS­SION has been granted for the con­struc­tion of age friendly liv­ing houses as part of six blocks of semi de­tached houses in Donard.

The ap­pli­cant Ted Flynn lodged a plan­ing ap­pli­ca­tion with Wick­low County Coun­cil in April. The lo­cal author­ity sought some ad­di­tional in­for­ma­tion in May, be­fore de­cid­ing to grant the de­vel­op­ment per­mis­sion.

The blocks of semi de­tached sin­gle story houses will be used ex­clu­sively as age friendly houses. There will be twelve houses in all, with each block com­pris­ing of one bed­room unit and one two bed­room unit. Per­mis­sion was also sought for the con­struc­tion of site en­trance, in­ter­nal ac­cess roads, foot­paths, con­nec­tion to ex­ist­ing foul sewer, pro­posed sur­face wa­ter and wa­ter­main ser­vices, park­ing and open space ar­eas nec­es­sary to serve the de­vel­op­ment per­mit­ted in 2017 and the new de­vel­op­ment and all as­so­ci­ated site works at Donard Demesne. In 2017 per­mis­sion was granted for the de­vel­op­ment at Macdonald Demesne West con­sist­ing of a sin­gle storey nurs­ing home with 60 beds and eight dormer houses which con­sist of four sets of semi de­tached dorm­ers.

Cllr Ed­ward Tim­mins feels the de­vel­op­ment will be a wel­come ad­di­tion.

‘I wel­come the news. More of th­ese sort of age friendly build­ings need to be built. It fa­cil­i­tates in­de­pen­dent liv­ing for el­derly peo­ple. This an­nounce­ment is good news for ev­ery­one.’
