Mary’s story is featured in book
A LOCAL artist’s story has been included in a new book about the experience of living with rheumatoid arthritis.
Mary Whelan’s story is among those that has been collected in ‘My RA Story: personal accounts of living with rheumatoid arthritis (RA)’.
With an introduction by writer Sinead Moriarty, My RA Story is a collection of accounts by people living with RA of the impact of this disease on their lives. The contributors wrote about the physical and emotional impact of the condition and how lives, careers and families are often irrevocably changed as a result of the diagnosis. It is not all grim, however, as in coming to terms with this condition people learn how to deal with adversity, become more present in their own lives, learn what is important and find hope.
The book was launched at a recent event in the National Library attended by contributors, Sinead Moriarty and representatives of Arthritis Ireland.
My RA Story costs €15 with all proceeds going to Arthritis Ireland.
