THE government might soon penalise you for taking health supplements by adding VAT at 23% on all supplements from 1st November, this tax will hit hard on your pocket. If passed, you will pay an extra €2.30 on €10.00, €4.60 on €20.00, and a whopping €13.80 on a single spend of €60.00.

I spoke to Matt Ronan, spokesperson on the issue:

‘This issue was widely debated earlier this year. The Minister of Finance opened a public consultation in April and will make his final decision known on October 8th in the budget.

What we know now however is that the public consultation was rigged from the very beginning by our Revenue Commissioners.

The terms of reference for this public consultation forced everybody to accept that VAT of some variety would have to be applied to these products as according to our revenue commissioners they were not rated at 0% VAT legally before January 1991.

However, through the extraordinary persistence of one tax agent who sees it the same way as the health industry we have now received the evidence that our health supplements were indeed entitled to be charged at 0% VAT. Now we have a classic battle on our hands–does Democracy win, or does Bureaucracy rule the day yet again.

Our politicians have it within their power to recognise the truth when it is presented to them and to do the right thing and confirm that food supplements can be sold into the future at 0% VAT. The work has been done for them and now it is a question of whether they have the will to change the future for natural healthcare in Ireland.

We literally only have days to contact with politicians to let them know that we would be disgusted if they allowed out of control bureaucracy to force us to pay a tax in order for us to try and stay healthy.

I implore you to lobby politicians right now and let them know that you are against this tax and sign the petition in your local health store.’

Stop this TAX before it becomes law! Don’t delay act today.
