Flagship event for Week of Sport
THE garden county will host a flagship event for European Week of Sport.
Bray Bandstand and Promenade is set to be a hive of activity and fun on Saturday, September 28 as a free family event takes place as part of the European Week of Sport.
#BeActive Nights are Pan European events to celebrate the European Week of Sport with night time events taking place across Europe on September 28. The #BeActive nights will take place in five different locations in Ireland, and Wicklow was selected as one of the hosts. Wicklow Local Sports Partnership have organised a Fun Neon Fitness Event for all to enjoy.
The event has a wide range of activities and people of all ages and abilities are encouraged to join in. Some of the activities include a 3 k Neon Run, which will have many bright colours on display as locals walk or run the scenic route along the promenade. There will also be face painting sessions for all the family to add to the colour of the occasion.
Numerous yoga sessions will allow people to try an alternative activity. Pound Fitness will be on-site delivering cardio jam sessions - inspired by the infectious, energizing and fun of playing the drums.
Bray Rowing club will be providing rowing trips out along the bay for people to experience Bray from a different angle and trying out a new activity.
There will be stationary bikes and rowers set up in the Bandstand for those who wish to get active at the same time learning more about the Eco Trails in Wicklow.
Bray is also the tenth European destination to host the epic Ecotrail Running Event which will start and finish on Bray seafront. Participants will have the choice of four different trail distance-18km, 28km, 45km and 80km that will take them from the shore of the Irish Sea to the top of the Wicklow Mountains.
Aisling Hubbard, coordinator of Wicklow Sports Partnership said, ’The sports partnership is delighted to host one of five flagship events in Ireland for the European Week of Sport. This event will act as the finishing party for the Eco-Trail and certainly has something for everyone. Our neon family event and pound class to finish will light up the seafront and we are encouraging everyone in the area to get involved.’
