Flag­ship event for Week of Sport

THE gar­den county will host a flag­ship event for Euro­pean Week of Sport.

Bray Band­stand and Prom­e­nade is set to be a hive of ac­tiv­ity and fun on Satur­day, Septem­ber 28 as a free fam­ily event takes place as part of the Euro­pean Week of Sport.

#BeAc­tive Nights are Pan Euro­pean events to cel­e­brate the Euro­pean Week of Sport with night time events tak­ing place across Europe on Septem­ber 28. The #BeAc­tive nights will take place in five dif­fer­ent lo­ca­tions in Ire­land, and Wick­low was se­lected as one of the hosts. Wick­low Lo­cal Sports Part­ner­ship have or­gan­ised a Fun Neon Fit­ness Event for all to en­joy.

The event has a wide range of ac­tiv­i­ties and peo­ple of all ages and abil­i­ties are en­cour­aged to join in. Some of the ac­tiv­i­ties in­clude a 3 k Neon Run, which will have many bright colours on dis­play as lo­cals walk or run the scenic route along the prom­e­nade. There will also be face paint­ing ses­sions for all the fam­ily to add to the colour of the oc­ca­sion.

Nu­mer­ous yoga ses­sions will al­low peo­ple to try an al­ter­na­tive ac­tiv­ity. Pound Fit­ness will be on-site de­liv­er­ing car­dio jam ses­sions - in­spired by the in­fec­tious, en­er­giz­ing and fun of play­ing the drums.

Bray Rowing club will be pro­vid­ing rowing trips out along the bay for peo­ple to ex­pe­ri­ence Bray from a dif­fer­ent an­gle and try­ing out a new ac­tiv­ity.

There will be sta­tion­ary bikes and row­ers set up in the Band­stand for those who wish to get ac­tive at the same time learn­ing more about the Eco Trails in Wick­low.

Bray is also the tenth Euro­pean des­ti­na­tion to host the epic Eco­trail Run­ning Event which will start and fin­ish on Bray seafront. Participan­ts will have the choice of four dif­fer­ent trail dis­tance-18km, 28km, 45km and 80km that will take them from the shore of the Ir­ish Sea to the top of the Wick­low Moun­tains.

Ais­ling Hub­bard, co­or­di­na­tor of Wick­low Sports Part­ner­ship said, ’The sports part­ner­ship is de­lighted to host one of five flag­ship events in Ire­land for the Euro­pean Week of Sport. This event will act as the fin­ish­ing party for the Eco-Trail and cer­tainly has some­thing for ev­ery­one. Our neon fam­ily event and pound class to fin­ish will light up the seafront and we are en­cour­ag­ing ev­ery­one in the area to get in­volved.’
