BALLYCOOG NS will hold its annual family fun and open day on Saturday, October 5 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The open day is a chance for prospective families to meet the teachers and see the school’s facilities.

Situated less than five minutes from Woodenbridge, parents may be surprised by how much this small school has to offer. Ballycoog NS is set in the stunning landscape of the garden county and surrounded by wide open spaces.

Its two classrooms are newly renovated and the school boasts a fully enclosed and equipped playground. The 250 m running track is a recent addition to the school’s facilities and pupils have the opportunity to participate in a running club. An active school, Ballycoog NS pupils also take part in activities including rugby and swimming. The Gaelic football team is a collaboration with Redcross NS and Barndarrig NS.

But, that’s not all that Ballycoog NS can offer to pupils. A green school and a music generation school, all pupils receive weekly sessions with a music tutor as part of the music generation programme.

There is also an emphasis on science and technology. With a science teacher on staff, the school exhibited at the 2018 RDS Science Blast primary science fair. Science lessons are often held outdoors in the school’s vegetable allotment.Children have the chance to grow, cook and taste their own fruit and vegetables. School pupils have access to a laptop, iPad and coding lessons to develop the skills they’ll need in the digital world.

Most of all, children at Ballycoog NS enjoy the extra attention from teachers made possible by its small, rural school setting.

Principal Ross Byrne welcomes families to come to the Ballycoog NS open day to meet the teachers, see all of the school’s wonderful facilities and enjoy a fun family afternoon.
