Derby delight for Arklow Town after goal-fest
There was derby delight for Arklow Town on Saturday evening as they saw off local rivals Arklow Celtic 5-3 in a goal-fest at Bridgewater Centre Park.
Conor Smith got on the end of a Kevin O’Regan cross to fire the visitors ahead but Town got their noses in front before the interval thanks to a Liam Moore double.
Larry Byrne tapped in the rebound after a Shane Walker free-kick to bring Celtic back on level terms, but the hosts quickly regained the initiative and a Shane Roche brace and an Andy Farrell goal gave them a 5-2 advantage.
Shane Farrell pulled a goal back from the penalty spot late on, but it was Arklow Town who earned the bragging rights.
Elsewhere Avonmore produced a five-star display to overcome Newtown United 5-1 (see focus match).
Lorcan Rossiter was the match winner for Coolboy Rangers on Sunday, netting the only goal of the game as his side edged out Greystones United 1-0.
Willie Kavanagh and Conor Dodd hit the back of the net for Arklow Town as they drew 2-2 with Shamrock Celtic at Bridgewater Centre Park, with Ross Bushe and Glen McCarthy replying for the visitors.
Meanwhile, the game between Arklow Celtic and Aughrim Rangers was abandoned after ten minutes to to an injury to Celtic player Lee Doyle.
Celtic were leading 1-0 at the time, with Doyle grabbing the goal.
Everybody involved in Wicklow soccer wishes Lee a speedy recovery.
