Derby delight for Arklow Town after goal-fest

Wicklow People (West Edition) - - SPORT - Andy McEvoy Premier

There was derby delight for Arklow Town on Saturday evening as they saw off local rivals Arklow Celtic 5-3 in a goal-fest at Bridgewater Centre Park.

Conor Smith got on the end of a Kevin O’Regan cross to fire the visitors ahead but Town got their noses in front before the interval thanks to a Liam Moore double.

Larry Byrne tapped in the rebound after a Shane Walker free-kick to bring Celtic back on level terms, but the hosts quickly regained the initiative and a Shane Roche brace and an Andy Farrell goal gave them a 5-2 advantage.

Shane Farrell pulled a goal back from the penalty spot late on, but it was Arklow Town who earned the bragging rights.

Elsewhere Avonmore produced a five-star display to overcome Newtown United 5-1 (see focus match).
