Big day for Blain­roe

Ju­niors face Tuam in All-Ire­land Ju­nior Four­somes fi­nal

BLAIN­ROE GOLF CLUB Ju­niors will com­pete in the All-Ire­land Ju­nior Four­somes Fi­nals this Sunday, Septem­ber 29, at Cas­tle Dar­gan in Co. Sligo.

The panel for the cham­pi­onship team will in­clude Liam Con­nolly, Stephen Kenny, David Lally, Conor Leonard, Seán Leonard and Jonathan Ryan. They are man­aged by Dave Smyth and coached by David Lewis, PGA Pro­fes­sional.

The Le­in­ster Four­somes tour­na­ment started back in April with 63 golf clubs tak­ing part. For their Le­in­ster medal this hard-work­ing Blain­roe team won over Wick­low, Grey­stones, Killiney, Old Conna, Wex­ford and fi­nally Balt­in­glass in the Le­in­ster fi­nal for a place in the All-Ire­lands at Cas­tle Dar­gan.

This is the first time in the 41year his­tory of Blain­roe Golf Club that a team has won the Ju­nior Four­somes Le­in­ster ti­tle and the first Le­in­ster Pen­nant at Blain­roe in 32 years.

The team has spent the few weeks lead­ing up to the com­pe­ti­tion with mul­ti­ple prac­tice and coach­ing ses­sions and a prac­tice round at Cas­tle Dar­gan.

Blain­roe will meet Tuam Golf Club from Co. Gal­way in the semi-fi­nal match up at 8am on Sunday. With a win over Tuam they will ad­vance to the All-Ire­land Fi­nal for a se­cond 18 holes on the same afternoon against ei­ther Mun­ster cham­pi­ons Faith­legg or Ul­ster cham­pi­ons War­ren­point.

The Ir­ish Ju­nior Four­somes tour­na­ment be­gan in 1983, and since then has played an es­sen­tial part in the de­vel­op­ment of boy’s golf and in­ter-club golf match play.
