Big day for Blainroe
Juniors face Tuam in All-Ireland Junior Foursomes final
BLAINROE GOLF CLUB Juniors will compete in the All-Ireland Junior Foursomes Finals this Sunday, September 29, at Castle Dargan in Co. Sligo.
The panel for the championship team will include Liam Connolly, Stephen Kenny, David Lally, Conor Leonard, Seán Leonard and Jonathan Ryan. They are managed by Dave Smyth and coached by David Lewis, PGA Professional.
The Leinster Foursomes tournament started back in April with 63 golf clubs taking part. For their Leinster medal this hard-working Blainroe team won over Wicklow, Greystones, Killiney, Old Conna, Wexford and finally Baltinglass in the Leinster final for a place in the All-Irelands at Castle Dargan.
This is the first time in the 41year history of Blainroe Golf Club that a team has won the Junior Foursomes Leinster title and the first Leinster Pennant at Blainroe in 32 years.
The team has spent the few weeks leading up to the competition with multiple practice and coaching sessions and a practice round at Castle Dargan.
Blainroe will meet Tuam Golf Club from Co. Galway in the semi-final match up at 8am on Sunday. With a win over Tuam they will advance to the All-Ireland Final for a second 18 holes on the same afternoon against either Munster champions Faithlegg or Ulster champions Warrenpoint.
The Irish Junior Foursomes tournament began in 1983, and since then has played an essential part in the development of boy’s golf and inter-club golf match play.
