NEWTOWN JUNIORS FC
Weatherwise it was much the same as last week, but heavy rain late Saturday night into Sunday morning. Mix ups in communication for want of a better word meant that the 8’s game away to Avonmore and the 10’s home game to Roundwood in the cup were not played. The 9’s game at home to St Anthony’s was a victim of the weather, while the 11’s game at home to Shillelagh was off due to the away side having a free week. Of the games played we had plenty of goals and drama.
The 12’s stayed in the hunt for honours in both league and shield after two fine wins in the past week. In midweek they won 6-3 away to St Anthony’s where there was a glut of first half goals (5-3 to Newtown). In fact it took a very late goal from Cathal O’Toole in the second half to finally secure all three points as the home side battled it out with our guys for long periods. That late goal was Cathal’s fourth goal of the game while Jake Robertson added the other two goals.
On Saturday morning they hit six again, this time at home to Enniskerry B winning 6-2. We had six different scorers and they were, Dayle Carthy, Dylan Dunleavy, Cathal O’Toole, Jake Robertson, Brooklyn Doyle and Keira Farrelly.
Our 13’s were at home in the league to Roundwood FC and as usual they gave it their all and left it all out on the pitch and were about five minutes away from getting a very positive and deserved result. The final score of 3-2 to Roundwood was a little harsh on our team. The 13’s had led twice to two excellent goals from PJ Duffy (free kick) and Jack Finnegan. On the day among the best players were Keira Farrelly, Jack Coughlan and Patrick Martin. Also nice to see Leon Moran back in action with the team after a while away.
Our ever popular Development Squad will return on Saturday, September 28 (10.11 a.m.) after the summer break. All boys and girls from five to seven years are very welcome to attend and can contact any coach or committee member for further information.

The Soccer Sisters programme consists of six free one hour training sessions with fully qualified and Garda vetted coaches from the club. All participants would also receive an FAI T-shirt if they participate in all six weeks. If there are any further developments on this programme we will let those interested know.
