Healthy numbers of footballers turn out for entertaining blitz

Wicklow People (West Edition) - - SPORT - CUMANN NA MBUNSCOL

THURSDAY last saw the first outing, for boys, this year. Bray Emmets again hosted the fifth/sixth class boys’ participation blitz. 30 teams entered our blitz playing four games within the hour.

With a brisk southerly breeze blowing there were great displays of teamwork whilst playing against the wind as well as some very accurate kicking over the bar with the wind.

Allianz Cumann na mBunscol would like to thank our referees on the day as well as Dave, Michéal and Garrett for preparing the pitches for the teams.

The participating schools were: St. Peter’s Bray (2), St.Fegal’s Bray (2), Scoil Chulann (1), St. Cronan’s Bray (2), Kilmacanogue (2), Newtownmountkennedy (1), Kilcoole (1), Scoil na Coroine Mhuire Ashford (3), Nun’s Cross Ashford (1), St. Patrick’s Wicklow (1), St. Laurence O’Toole NS Roundwood (2), Moneystown NS (1), Gaelscoil na Clocha Liath (3), Greystones Educate Together (3), St. Kevin’s Greystones (2), St. Laurence’s Greystones (2), St. Bridget’s Greystones (1).

Upcoming Allianz Camogie League Day: The first Allianz Camogie League blitz of the year will take place on Thursday, October 3, at 11.45, at the Bray Emmets ground.

The focus of the blitz is on participation and giving as many girls as possible a chance to play camogie, regardless of experience.

The games are nine-a-side, no age limit, goals only, no goalkeeper.

Please feel free to send more than one team but let us know when you reply the age group of the team so fixtures can be set accordingly; and also if the teams are made up of club players or school-only players so that this can be taken into consideration for fixture setting as well.

Please let Ciara Fagan, Camogie Officer, know by Monday, September 29, if you are attending and how many teams you will bring, including the age range and experience level of the teams.

There are girls from third to sixth interested so hopefully we can have a good age range.

Team mentors may be called upon to referee matches if needed on the day.

If you have any questions, feel free to email Ciara or text her on 0834841387.
