AN­OTHER year over for Lake­side Com­mu­nity Games, with over 50 chil­dren rep­re­sent­ing Wick­low Com­mu­nity Games at the Na­tional Fes­ti­val in Uni­ver­sity of Limerick.

This year saw Lake­side bring home four medals from the Fes­ti­vals. They re­cently held their pre­sen­ta­tion night, as they looked back over an­other suc­cess­ful year.

At the Na­tional Fes­ti­val in May, Clodagh McKeon showed she’d learned a lot from com­pet­ing the prior year and won a third-place medal in the U12 Recita­tion.

Mean­while, Mia Mc­Grath took home a well-de­served fourth place medal in the U14 Girls Art, af­ter been so close on so many other oc­ca­sions.

Aimee Gallagher made front page news with her per­for­mance in the U16 Girls Marathon and the team came home with fourth place medals.

Au­gust saw Lukas Sarkauskas bring­ing home his third bronze medal for the 100m sprint, with this be­ing his last year el­i­gi­ble to com­pete. He will be missed by all as he was a great role model for the younger par­tic­i­pants.

Holly John­son was just out­side the medals on the day in the U8 80m fi­nal but con­tin­ued to smile at her great achieve­ment and has her eyes set on get­ting back next year.

The U10 Mixed Re­lay com­prised of Emily Be­han, Clodagh McKeon, Is­abelle War­ren, Matthew Burke, Fred Dick and Joey Dore also made their re­spec­tive fi­nal.

Dig­ni­taries at the pre­sen­ta­tion night in­cluded NEAC di­rec­tor Fiona Shannon, Le­in­ster sec­re­tary Phyl­lis Far­rell, for­mer na­tional sec­re­tary Ge­orge O’Toole and his wife Mary, Wick­low vice-pres­i­dent She­lia Driver, for­mer Wick­low com­mit­tee mem­ber Ellen Nolan and her hus­band Eu­gene.

Spe­cial awards were pre­sented to com­peti­tors on the night in recog­ni­tion of their per­for­mance and pos­i­tiv­ity through­out the year. Holly John­son re­ceived the He­len Burke Me­mo­rial Cup, pre­sented by Richard Buke; Char­lie Mooney re­ceived the Mary and Gerry Maguire Cup, pre­sented by Eileen Dolan; while Clodagh McKeon re­ceived the Alan Auld Cup, pre­sented by Ge­orge O’Toole.

Spon­sors on the night were Su­per­Valu Bless­ing­ton, Crimin Butcher’s, Bless­ing­ton, Fair Hill B+B, Bless­ing­ton, Hol­ly­wood Com­mu­nity Cen­tre, AJ Bus Hire, Val­ley­mount and An­drew Auld.
