LAKESIDE CG PRESENTATION
ANOTHER year over for Lakeside Community Games, with over 50 children representing Wicklow Community Games at the National Festival in University of Limerick.
This year saw Lakeside bring home four medals from the Festivals. They recently held their presentation night, as they looked back over another successful year.
At the National Festival in May, Clodagh McKeon showed she’d learned a lot from competing the prior year and won a third-place medal in the U12 Recitation.
Meanwhile, Mia McGrath took home a well-deserved fourth place medal in the U14 Girls Art, after been so close on so many other occasions.
Aimee Gallagher made front page news with her performance in the U16 Girls Marathon and the team came home with fourth place medals.
August saw Lukas Sarkauskas bringing home his third bronze medal for the 100m sprint, with this being his last year eligible to compete. He will be missed by all as he was a great role model for the younger participants.
Holly Johnson was just outside the medals on the day in the U8 80m final but continued to smile at her great achievement and has her eyes set on getting back next year.
The U10 Mixed Relay comprised of Emily Behan, Clodagh McKeon, Isabelle Warren, Matthew Burke, Fred Dick and Joey Dore also made their respective final.
Dignitaries at the presentation night included NEAC director Fiona Shannon, Leinster secretary Phyllis Farrell, former national secretary George O’Toole and his wife Mary, Wicklow vice-president Shelia Driver, former Wicklow committee member Ellen Nolan and her husband Eugene.
Special awards were presented to competitors on the night in recognition of their performance and positivity throughout the year. Holly Johnson received the Helen Burke Memorial Cup, presented by Richard Buke; Charlie Mooney received the Mary and Gerry Maguire Cup, presented by Eileen Dolan; while Clodagh McKeon received the Alan Auld Cup, presented by George O’Toole.
