Busy weekend for Wicklow minis

Wicklow People (West Edition) - - SPORT -

WICKLOW RFC’S minis had their first full blitz of the new season on Sunday morning, October 6.

Matches took place for all age grades with teams in action against Gorey RFC and Rathdrum RFC.

Under 10s and 11s hosted their counterparts at home in Ashtown Lane while the U-7s, 8s, 9s and 12s travelled south to play in Gorey.

Sunday morning dawned bright much to the relief of players and spectators alike following days of rain.

The sunshine brought out the best in the players on the field with some sparkling rugby being played at all levels.

The U-10s took on Gorey in Wicklow with both clubs fielding two teams.

The players had two very competitive matches in great conditions for fast running rugby. Next weekend they travel to De La Salle Palmerston to play in the Leinster Aviva Blitz. The U-12 girls will also take part in this blitz.

The U-12 boys performed really well in their matches against Gorey. Wicklow fielded two teams against two big, physical Gorey sides and enjoyed two great games each. This was their first time to try out the new format in which they play the full width of the pitch and they have come away with a firm foundation for the season ahead.

It’s back to training for most teams this Sunday at 10am in Ashtown Lane.
