Sin­cere sym­pa­thy is ex­tended to the fam­ily and rel­a­tives of Mrs An­nie Doyle née Brooke’s, The Yew Tree, Shil­le­lagh, who died re­cently and was buried in Clone­gal ceme­tery.

To the fam­ily and rel­a­tives of Fr Barry Ffrench, Bal­ly­money and for­merly of Ross­lare and the dio­cese of Westminste­r Lon­don, who died last week, his re­mains were re­moved to Askamore on Thurs­day evening and Mass took place at mid­day on Fri­day fol­lowed by cre­ma­tion.


Con­grat­u­la­tions to the un­der-11 boys on win­ning their fi­nal against Barn­dar­rig.

To the un­der-16 girls on win­ning their c cham­pion fi­nal against An Tochar and they also won their camo­gie fi­nal.


Con­grat­u­la­tions to Justin and Anne Birchill, Mal­ton Park on the birth of their daugh­ter.


Ash­ling Lit­tle and fam­ily Don­ishall would like to say a big Thank you to ev­ery­one who sup­ported their cof­fee day re­cently, to all who helped and made buns, etc a to­tal of €783 was raised and all money raised lo­cally stays lo­cal. Your sup­port is greatly ap­pre­ci­ated.


The fol­low­ing are the walks for the next two weeks for Ti­na­hely Walk­ing club. COc­to­ber 13: Rail­way Walk/Tom­nafinnoge. Level C, 10km, 3.5 hours. Meet Rail­way car park Ti­na­hely 11 a.m. Oc­to­ber 20: To be con­firmed.

As usual, please re­mem­ber to wear proper walk­ing boots, pack full rain gear and bring ad­e­quate food and drink. Please check Ti­na­hely Walk­ing Club Face­book page for any changes to the sched­uled walks.


Re­minder to please return your Christ­mas Lights Do­na­tion En­ve­lope to Carnew Train­ing and Devel­op­ment Cen­tre as soon as you can. We will ap­pre­ci­ate any do­na­tion, how­ever big or small. The main thing is that ev­ery­one knows that we have to raise money to light up the street for Christ­mas, un­for­tu­nately we are only start­ing out again and we need a lot of money to re­place the old stock of lights – bit by bit we can get there but it is go­ing to take time and money. Thank you for your sup­port.

We hope you can join us for our next fundraiser which will be an ‘Af­ter­noon Tea’ on Oc­to­ber 19 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Main Street – watch out for posters closer to the event.


Cool­boy Com­mu­nity field will hold their AGM on Sun­day, Oc­to­ber 20, at 7 p.m. in the parish hall, all wel­come.


Carnew an­nual plough­ing match will be held on Satur­day, Oc­to­ber 12, in Cool­boy on lands kindly spon­sored by Kevin Do­ran, to en­ter con­tact Kevin at 087 6732437.


There will be a cook­ery demon­stra­tion in aid of St Ai­dan’s Ser­vices by Miche­lin star chef Derry Clarke at Seafield Ho­tel, Gorey on Thurs­day, Oc­to­ber 10, at 8 p.m.

Derry will be joined by lo­cal head chefs Ra­men Ku­mar of Seafield. Val Mur­phy on the Ash­down. Wil­liam Miller of the Am­ber Springs. En­ter a draw to sit at the test­ing ta­ble for the dishes cooked on the night.

Raf­fle prizes in­clude din­ner for two in Derry’s L’Ecrivan Restau­rant. Meal for two in the Rowan Tree Restau­rant in the Ash­down. Din­ner for two in the Seafield. A lux­ury ham­per. Tick­ets €20 avail­able from St Ai­dan’s Mil­l­lands, the ‘First wives club ac­tors and ac­tresses. Quinn prop­erty, Gorey and com­mit­tee mem­bers.


The next bingo in St Brid­get’s Hall, Carnew is on Sun­day, Oc­to­ber 6, and 20, all money raised will go to­wards the hall ren­o­va­tion fund, thanks to ev­ery­one for their sup­port to date it is greatly ap­pre­ci­ated.


The lucky win­ner of €240 in our split-the-pot draw for Scoil Ao­dan Naofa Carnew was Ste­fan Mur­phy. Con­grat­u­la­tions. The seller’s prize was won by Daniel Lawrence, who won a €10 voucher for Vic­tors and the luck­y­dip win­ner was MJ Hughes. Next draw is Fri­day, Oc­to­ber 11. Thank you for all the sup­port.


Win­ner of split-the-pot on Fri­day, Oc­to­ber 4 is Noeleen Dee­gan, Brideswell – win­ning €148. We thank ev­ery­one for sup­port­ing split-the-pot.

En­velopes can be ob­tained from the School or any par­ent and from Ash­ling Walsh af­ter Sun­day Mass in Askamore Church. Draws will take place ev­ery Fri­day morn­ing in Ballyellis School. Many thanks for your con­tin­ued sup­port.


The cof­fee dock in Askamore is now open on Mon­day to Fri­day morn­ing from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., cof­fee/tea/hot choco­late and a bis­cuit €2, the state-of-the-art cof­fee ma­chine takes €1 or €2 coins, self ser­vice. We have been asked to or­gan­ise talks of in­ter­est for all ages, so if you have a topic you would like dis­cussed please let us know. Why not meet your friends or fam­ily and have a cuppa and a chat.


A Christ­mas con­cert will take place in Kil­rush Church on Fri­day, De­cem­ber 6, with mu­sic by Des Wil­loughby and the Celtic Broth­ers, ad­mis­sion €20, spe­cial of­fer for fam­i­lies.


The fit for any­thing group is very pop­u­lar with peo­ple who may have health is­sues or want to take gen­tle ex­er­cise at their own pace. If you would like to take part come along on Wed­nes­day morn­ings from 11.15 a.m. to 12.15 p.m. and stay for a cup of tea or cof­fee and a chat af­ter­wards.

Pi­lates classes take place at 8.45 a.m. ev­ery Wed­nes­day morn­ing fol­lowed by fit­ness class at 10 a.m., if you are in­ter­ested please come along or con­tact Finches Fit­ness at 086 8468165.
