Enniskerry FC on top of the world

Spotlight shines on proud club

- DANIEL GORMAN Sports Reporter

ENNISKERRY FC enjoyed one of the proudest days in their history on Saturday as hundreds descended upon their tiny village to help them celebrate being named the Fai/aviva Club of the Month for January last.

Players, parents, well-wishers and many, many more all headed along to try and catch a glimpse of the camera crew who travelled to the Garden County to shoot footage of the club in their own back yard.

150 children took part in a skills exhibition at the same time, showing off their best tekkers for onlooking RTE star Jacqui Hurley.

She was kept quite busy herself though as she interviewed several members of the Enniskerry club as well as excited children and parents. The delightful Ms. Hurley had to shoot a three minute 'This is Your Life' style profile on the club. The video is also set to feature on Setanta and a 30 second segment will be played on the big screens in the Aviva Stadium during the Republic of Ireland's upcoming friendlies.

And last but not least, it will be a part of Enniskerry's presentation at the FAI'S AGM in July when they compete with seven other clubs to be crowned the club of the year. The club are hoping to begin planning on their presentation in the coming weeks.

And as if they don't have enough on their plates as it is, in just over nine weeks time (Saturday, April 21), the Bog Meadow is set to play host to the Belles in the Meadow once again. Belles in the Meadow sees over 700 girls from across the country flock to Wicklow to take part in an-all girl's competition, the largest one in Ireland.

And if that day runs half as smoothly as Saturday it will be a massive success as a clearly elated Enniskerry secretary. 'It was absolutely fantastic. An incredible day', beamed David Miller. Everything went brilliantly, you couldn't ask for more. It's great for the village and for a small club to get such recognition is outstanding.'

Kavanagh will now be turning his attentions to July and the chance to see his club be named the finest in Ireland, and, just like every time a player crosses that white line, he is in to win it.

'The first step of the presentation is that video. We're going to hopefully put our heads together in the next few weeks and start planning the rest of. But it'd be incredible to win it, it really would.'
