GAELCHOLAISTE NA MARA 9-10 COLAISTE BHRIDE CARNEW 1-05

THE HOLDERS Colaiste Bhride Carnew failed in their bid to reach the First Year A football final as they were outclassed by Gaelcholaiste na Mara from Arklow in the semi final in Carnew on Tuesday.

This is the first time for the Gaelcholaiste to reach a boys county A final and, on this form, they will be hard to beat in the final.

Despite playing uphill in the first half, the Arklow school gained the lion’s share of possession and went into a 3-4 to 0-0 lead.

The holders fought back however and scored four points before referee Christy O’rourke’s half time whistle.

The second half was closely contested for fifteen minutes but in the final quarter Gaelcholaiste na Mara got right on top and a few late goals gave them a somewhat flattering victory margin.

The Arklow school now await either Scoil Chonglais Baltinglass or, another surprise packet, St Kilian’s Community School Bray in the final.

Top scorer for the winners was Jack D’arcy with 3-4 while impressive midfielder Cal Kelly added 2-1.

Others to star included Tom Maher in defence, Cathal Kelleher, Calum Devereux and Tommy Rowan. Colaiste Bhride played in a most sporting manner throughout and were well served by Martin Murray, James Gregan and Dean Grandy.
