Local superintendent praises garda investigation team
WICKLOW GARDA Superintendent Paul Hogan has paid tribute to the investigation team that secured the murder conviction of Marta Herda.
She was found guilty of the murder of Csaba Orsos on March 26, 2013, by driving off the pier in Arklow.
Supt Hogan said that thanks to the diligent work of Gardaí in the Wicklow Division the mandatory life sentence was handed down to Herda last Thursday.
‘I would like to thank the entire team who put a lot of work into this case. The team comprised Detective Inspector Frank Keenaghan who coordinated the investigation, case manager Detective Sergeant Fergus O’Brien, family liaison officer Garda Catherine O’Rourke, witness manager Detective Garda Liam Flynn, exhibits officer Garda Tony Crehan, incident room coordinator Garda Michael Hall,’ he said.
Supt Hogan also paid tribute to all the gardaí in the division who gave evidence and to the forensic specialist teams for their diligence.
‘ This was a trial that went on for four weeks, with three days of jury deliberations. At the outset there were 102 witnesses, so there was a considerable amount of resources allocated to it, and a lot of work carried out,’ he said.
‘I also wish to thank the translators and the Hungarian Embassy for their assistance and I commend the brother of Mr Orsos, Zoltan Sandro, for his dignity and perseverence during a four-week trial in a foreign city.’
He also thanked the management and staff of the BrookLodge Hotel for their assistance and for providing evidence in court.
