Library association holds conference at Tinakilly House
THE Library Association of Ireland Public Libraries Section annual conference was held at Tinakilly House Hotel over three days from Tuesday to Thursday of last week.
This year’s title was ‘Let’s Work Together: Marketing, Partnership and Collaboration in Public Library Communities.’
More than 100 library staff from across the country attended the event. Experiences and best practice from Ireland and the UK were discussed in the various lectures, with speakers from Ireland, England and Scotland discussing the future of the service.
Chief Executive of Wicklow County Council, Frank Curran, said he was delighted that the Public Libraries Group had chosen County Wicklow for this year’s event.
He spoke of the challenges and opportunities that the recent developments in public libraries present.
In particular, he said there was very positive feedback from the public in the availability of free online services to all, including e-books, e-magazines and e-comics.
Library membership is now free to everyone throughout Ireland and people can search the catalogues of more than 330 public libraries and request items, which are delivered to their local library within days.
If you are not already a library member, just look up your county council’s web-site for details of your nearest library. Library staff will give you a PIN number from which all the online services can be accessed.
