Top honours all round
ROUNDWOOD Ploughing Society held its annual ploughing match just before the weather broke with conventional, vintage, classic tractor and horse classes all catered for.
Spectators young and old gathered in anticipation of the competition.
The society would like to thank John Donoghue for the use of his site in Mullinaveigue, Roundwood.
The results are as follows: Champion Class, first Liam Hamilton, second Richard Keegan, third Robert Roe: 2 Furrow Reversible first Tom Donnely: 3 Furrow, first Eric Bradshaw: Vintage 2 Furrow, first Sean Boland, second Willy Carney. Trailer Plough, first Tommy Pierce, second Robert Mitchell: Horse Ploughing, first Gerry King, second Kevin Doran, third Leslie Hanbridge Loy: Ploughing, first Jim Hennigan, second Jane Stephens, third Eugene Stephens.
The society extended its thanks to Joe Kavanagh and all the staff of Vartry House for facilitating all the society meetings and looking after the judges on the day.
Thanks were also sent to Jurgen Schwalm and the staff of the Roundwood Inn who provided a beautiful meal for all those who ploughed on the day.
