Crossbridge woman hosts run in support of Féileacáin

- BY DEBORAH COLEMAN

A SOUTH Wicklow mother is hosting a charity run this weekend to raise funds the organisation that supported her after she lost her son to stillbirth last tear.

Yvonne Gilbert (20) from Crossbridge, Tinahely, decided to run the event in memory of her and her partner Charles’s son Noah George Gilbert Condren and in aid of Féileacáin - the Stillbirth and Neonatal Deaths Association of Ireland.

‘When I was pregnant, I found out early on that Noah had Edwards’s Syndrome which is a chromosomal defect that meant he would pass away either before or shortly after birth. He was stillborn at 34 weeks and one day and I found that Féileacáin was very supportive during this time. They gave me a memory box and they arranged for a cast of Noah’s footprints to be done that I could keep. These are memories that I will treasure forever. They also provide counselling and run support groups for parents,’ Yvonne said.

The Remembrance Run 5k/10k run/walk takes place on Sunday, May 6, just days after Noah’s first anniversary, and Yvonne is hoping that as many people as possible will show their support.

Athletes can register in advance at www.popupraces.ie or on the day at Murphy’s Hotel from 11 a.m.

The run starts at 1 p.m. and all finishers get a specially designed medal.

There will be face-painting and a kids’ dash on the day.

Those who cannot make it can still show their support by registering at www.popupraces. ie for a virtual run which they can do in their own time and log in aid of this event.

Yvonne is extending a special invitation to parents who have lost children to stillbirth and neonatal death as there will be a remembrance wall set up on the day where pictures and memories can be shared.
