Carnew into the final four

Charlie Bishop Cup

Carnew AFC ‘A’ booked their place in the final four of the Charlie Bishop Cup thanks to a strong second-half performanc­e in their semi-final against Arklow Celtic B last Thursday evening.

Mikey Doyle gave the underdogs the lead midway through the first-half but Rob Elliott drew Carnew level before the interval.

Carnew took control after the break and goals from Cillian Gilligan, JJ McCrea and James Behan saw them safely through.

Charlie O’Leary Cup

Newtown United progressed to the semi-finals of the Charlie O’Leary Cup by overcoming Bohs Supporters Club 2-0 at the Phoenix Park on Sunday.

The Magpies were made to work hard for their victory though, with late goals from Ross Davis and Sean Heffernan eventually seeing off the stubborn resistance of the hosts.

Meanwhile, Roundwood AFC were beaten 3-2 by Park Orient in their second round tie.

Thomas Scott Cup

Glencormac United fought back from two goals down to beat St Patrick’s AFC 4-2 and book their place in their place in the final of the Thomas Scott Cup.

An Adam Browne strike and an own goal looked to have the saints in a strong position, but back stormed the Glens, with Stephen Kirwan (penalty), Sam Kerr, Sam O’Callaghan and Nathan Watters all hitting the back of the net for the Kilmacanog­ue outfit. Elswhere, Arklow United beat Ashford Rovers 2-0 to take their place in the decider (see focus match).

Charlie Byrne Cup

Shamrock Celtic and Dearg Celtic will meet in the Charlie Byrne Cup final after both came through their respective semi-finals.

Craig Doyle bagged a double for Shamrock Celtic in the 3-2 win over Conary United, with Kevin Murphy getting their other goal and Stephen Roche and David Doran replying.

Dearg Celtic had a more comfortabl­e win, as they overcame Carnew AFC 5-2, thanks to a Philip Murphy hat-trick and goals from Wesley O’Toole and Niall Garvey. JJ McCrea netted both goals for Carnew.

Andy McEvoy Premier 1

Ashford Rovers strengthen­ed their grip at the top of the Andy McEvoy Premier Division with two big away wins in the past week.

The enjoyed an emphatic 6-0 midweek success against Arklow Celtic, with Danny Byrne and Cian O hAnnain contributi­ng doubles and Brendan Manning and Callum Pursey adding a goal apiece.

They followed it up with a 7-1 triumph against FC Lokomotiv, thanks to a double from Pursey and goals from O hAnnain, Fiachra Ryan, Shane Dunne, Mick Taylor and Robbie Eyre.

St Peter’s also chalked up a 7-1 victory as they overwhelme­d Arklow Celtic at Celtic Park.

Chad Ryan bagged a hat-trick, Killian O’Carroll added a double, with Dean Fletcher and Jamie Kelly grabbing a goal apiece. Gary McLoughlin netted a late consolatio­n for Celtic.
