Quinn’s Arsenal come up short in FA Cup final
A RECORD crowd flooded to Wembley Stadium to witness Saturday’s SSE Women’s FA Cup final which saw Louise Quinn’s Arsenal fall to a 3-1 defeat against Chelsea.
It was scoreless at half time and centre-half Quinn had actually gone close to breaking the deadlock with a first half header.
It all went downhill from there for the Blessington woman though.
Chelsea took an early lead in the second half and doubled it on the hour mark.
Arsenal would pull a goal back but Chelsea killed off their hopes with a classy third. The final was shown live on BBC1.
It was only the second time that Arsenal Ladies had tasted defeat in the final and although deeply upset at having to settle for a silver medal, Quinn still appreciates the journey from the Community College on the Naas to Wembley Stadium.
“It’s definitely a proud moment and something my family really loved.
“It’s something I won’t forget but obviously it would have been that much better if we were lifting that trophy but it just puts more fire in the belly to try get to the final again and try win it.”
Arsenal - once the all-conquering side - had slipped under the radar in recent times but look to be dining at the top table again and still maintain slim hopes of pinching a league title or European qualification this year.
“I think it’s shows Arsenal are getting back to those winning ways and we have the players and coach to do that.
“The history of the club is amazing and you want to be able to keep that going.
“It will be very tough to get the league title and get that European spot as it is kind of out of our hands right now but obviously we will go into these last few games with the intention of winning of course.
“We will try give ourselves the best chance we can!”
