CAMOGIE BLITZ

Two teams travelled to Ballinakill to play a 1st year camogie blitz. The CB girls met two Avondale Teams and Gaelcolaiste na Mara. Both teams won all games and kept their opponents scoreless. In the final, both Coláiste Bhríde teams played each other in an extremely close match. It came down to the final minutes when Coláiste Bhríde 2 secured a goal putting them in the lead by two points. Neither team gave up until the final whistle was blown. Well done to both teams.

FOOTBALL BLITZ

Two CB teams travelled to Ballinakill to compete in the first year football blitz. Team 1 played first against Baltinglass 2. They performed very well as a team and won by a comfortable margin of 4-5 to 1-0. Team 2 were up against Avondale CBS. This was a very entertaining game which could’ve gone either way but ended up a draw. Team 1 played a strong Arklow Gaelcholaiste side who would end up playing our other team in the final. The Arklow team proved too strong and won comfortably in the end. Coláiste Bhríde 1 won easily in their next game against Arklow 2.

This put Coláiste Bhríde into the semi final against Baltinglass 1 which proved to be the game of the day. Coláiste Bhríde scraped through by a point. Then their final game of day against Arklow Gaelcolaiste. This was a game they were never going to lose and they ran out 4-5 to 1-2 winners. The captain Tim Ivers raised the trophy.

LET’S SPELLEBRATE

Our Spelling Bee has become an annual event over the past 5 years and the decision was taken last May to open the competition to all KWETB schools. This is a Student Council initiative which has gone from strength to strength since its inception.

There was a great response from schools and Coláiste Bhríde was delighted to host the final on April 25th. In total, 5 schools competed with 15 teams taking part. The schools that took part were Glenart College, Ardscoil Rath Iomgháin, Avondale Community College, Confey College and the home team, Coláiste Bhríde.

After many rounds it was the Coláiste Bhríde team of Ross Bailey, Isabella Ní Chonaill and Juliette Ní Chonaill coming out on top. The winning team was presented with the brand new perpetual trophy, kindly sponsored by The Educational Company of Ireland (EDCO). Alan Wright from EDCO presented the trophy to the winning team. We were also delighted to have Ainé O’Sullivan, Acting Director of Education, with us on the day to address the students.

Well done to the TY group who completed a module which covered everything from health and wellbeing to nutrition with local physiotherapist Paddy Byrne. Paddy spent six weeks discussing and actively demonstrating to TYs that a healthy body really is something to appreciate. He gave them tips for the future and linked physical and mental health. The activities and theory were very beneficial to the entire class. very talented Leaving Certificate and Junior Certificate music students played and sang their exam pieces. It was a beautiful evening where the girls’ enormous talent and hard work were showcased. It included singing from individual students, the third and sixth year group singers as well as the DCW third and sixth year Singing Groups and the DCW Chamber Orchestra.
