NEWTOWN JUNIORS FC

All our teams were in action last weekend and as usual there were plenty of thrills and spills. Our 8’s hosted Roundwood and played out a keenly contested series of games where Bobby Spillane and Aaron Nolan played well. Likewise our 9’s and St Patrick’s played some good football and Alex Ryan, Lucas Dowdall and Albie Chance all played well.

The 10s travelled to take on Roundwood and a Ryan Collins treble and a William Valentine solo effort were the highlights for Newtown. Best on the day were Aaron Roy and Collins.

The 11’s were among the goals at home to Rathnew as Brooklyn Doyle helped himself to four goals. There were braces for Jake Robertson and Cormac Chance and one from Dylan Dunleavy. Best for the 11’s were Rose Kelly Tynan and Cillian Coffey.

The under-12s recent good run came to an end at home to a strong Rathnew team losing out on a 6-1 scoreline. In truth the score was a little harsh on our guys but mistakes were made and they got punished. Patrick Martin scored the Newtown goal while Jack Coughlan and Iggy Szpilka were among the best players.

Our 14’s were dropped down to Division 1 during the week but im afraid the trend of recent results remain the same. On Thursday evening they lost 5-1 at home to Coolboy Rangers where Shane Synnott scored the Newtown goal in a below par team performance despite the absence of five regulars.

On Saturday they travelled to Roundwood and while the performance was a tad better they still went down to a 6-3 defeat. Poor defending and ill discipline cost the team on the day. Scorers against Roundwood were Bobby Dowling, Charlie Sullivan and Shane Dunleavy. Anyway onwards and upwards.

The following are the fixtures for Wednesday, May 16, to Sunday, May 20: under-12s away to Avonmore B ko Wednesday at 7 p.m. (Tullylusk); under-14s away to Avonmore ko Thursday at 7 p.m. (Pat O’Toole Park); under-eights away to Wicklow Rovers White ko to be confirmed; under-nines away to Arklow Town Black ko to be confirmed; under-10s away to Sporting Greystones Black ko to be confirmed; under-11s away to Enniskerry White ko to be confirmed; under-12s at home to Greystones B ko Saturday to be confirmed (Cup S/F/first Leg); under-14s – No Fixture (Fixtures and ko times are subject to change)
