Avril and Kathrina leap from a plane

A FIRM of solicitors from Wicklow town has been challenged to take part in a skydive by their colleagues.

Solicitors Avril Flannery and Kathrina Bray from Callan Tansey Solicitors, which has offices in Sligo, Boyle, Dublin, Ballina and Galway, took to the sky recently in aid of Spinal Injuries Ireland.

The duo, who jumped 10,000 feet from a plane, reaching a falling speed of over 200 km/h, have now challenged the staff at Augustus Cullen Law in Wicklow town as well as Hayes Solicitors in Dublin and Hegarty and Armstrong Solicitors in Sligo to compete the same challenge.

Spinal Injuries Ireland is currently trying to start a nationwide campaign by challengin­g solicitors to complete the same skydive to help raise funds.

Avril and Kathrina explained their decision to support Spinal Injuries Ireland: ‘Through our work, in acting for patients who have been injured as a result of medical negligence and personal injury, we have seen the catastroph­ic devastatio­n and life changing injuries that a spinal cord injury can cause. Without the expert support and WICKLOW Rowing Club enjoyed great success at its first regatta of the seasonin Dun Laoghaire.

The men’s novice winners were John Philip Dunne, Aaron Flattery, Marc Nichols and Shay Cox.

The under-14 winners were Seán Higgins, Eric Dunne, Peter Dunne and PJ Jameson.

Ciaran Carey, Alexander Gallet, Noah Hannahoe and Dilinus Mazirskas came third in the under-14 category. assistance of Spinal Injuries Ireland, individual­s would not know where to turn or what their new participat­ion in life can be.’

Spinal Injuries Ireland is the only charity that supports those with a spinal cord injury and relies on fundraisin­g for 60 per cent of its income.

Under-16 winners were Callum Doyle, Taylor Ryan, Conor Doyle and Craig Nolan, with Marc Nichols coxing.

Jason Dunne, Jack Doyle, Ray Doyle, Jordan Ryan and cox Marc Nichols won the intermedia­te men’s section.

And the junior ladies’ category was won by Leona Franey, Dayna Keogh, Debbie Higgins, Paula Keating and cox Marc Nichols.
