Sheep breeders host 51st annual show
AUGHRIM Sheep Breeders held a presentation night recently to reward the winners of the group’s 51st annual show.
The show took place on September 7 at Carnew Mart with over 2,000 top quality stock on show. The presentations were made at O’Toole’s in Aughrim later that same evening.
The Macre Na Feirme Cup for the best pen of ten Suffolk cross ewes (two years old and upwards) went to Pat Burke from Lackargh, while the Thomas Doyle Perpetual Cup for the best pen of ten store lambs was won by Pardaig Heal from Aughrim.
The Terry O’ Neill Memorial Cup for the best pen of ten genuine mountain Cheviot ewes (two years and upwards) was Breda Davvitt Durkin from Rathdrum.
The winner of the Lawless Hotel Trophy for the best pen of ten Cheviot hogget ewes was John Driver from Rathdangan, who was also presented with the cup by Liam and Thomas Keenan for the Reserve Champion pen of ewes.
The Late Andy Shannon Cup for the best pen of ten Cheviot ewe lambs was presented to Liam Roberts from Kildavin, who was also presented with the cup for Reserve Champion pen of lambs by representatives of the late Michael Eoin Fogarty.
Both the Patrick and Peter O’Byrne (Clonee Cup) for the best pen of ten Cheviot ewes (two years and upwards) and the Brady Cup to went to Tom Dunne.
Charles Fenton from Donard was the winner of the Patrick and John O’Byrne Cup for the best pen of ten Suffolk cross hogget ewes and also received the late Philip and James O’Neill Cup for Overall Champion pen of ewes.
Peter Behan from Ballinglen was a big winner on the day, taking home the Farmers Journal Cup for the best pen of ten broken mouthed ewes; the Meath Arms Cup for the best pen of ten cast ewes; the Peter Goslin Memorial Cup for the best pen of ten Suffolk cross ewe lambs; the Patrick Healy Memorial Cup for the best pen of ten fat lambs; the Joe O’Toole Perpetual Cup for the best pen of ten Cheviot wether lambs of ram lambs; and Andy O’Neill Memorial Cup for the overall champion of lambs.
