Any­one for ten­nis at Wick­low club?

REACH­ING out and en­cour­ag­ing new peo­ple to try ten­nis is the name of the game at Wick­low Ten­nis Club this week.

Both the ‘Ladies into Ten­nis’ and ‘Ten­nis for the over-60s’ ini­tia­tives be­gin at the club this week. The pro­grammes are sup­ported by Wick­low County Coun­cil and there are still a few spa­ces left for the over-60s. Any­one in­ter­ested in tak­ing part should con­tact the club.

In ad­di­tion, the club is run­ning an­other ‘En­joy Ten­nis’ pro­gramme with mem­bers of the Blue Dol­phins Spe­cial Olympics Club while so­cial ten­nis, which is open to any­one who would like to give ten­nis a try, takes place next Mon­day at 7.30 p.m. Any­one plan­ning on at­tend­ing is asked to let the club know if ad­vance.

The un­der-18 boys first team beat Don­ny­brook 1 in a close quar­ter fi­nal in Naas on Sun­day and will now take on Sut­ton 2 at home this Sun­day at 4 p.m. The ladies first team has made it through to the quar­ter fi­nal of the Flood­light League and will play against Clon­tarf 2 on Tues­day, Novem­ber 13. Wick­low Ten­nis Club will host the fi­nals of this League on Novem­ber 27.

One-hun­dred-and-twenty mem­bers will bat­tle it out in the Cullen Butcher Turkey Tour­na­ment over the com­ing weeks be­fore two teams (ten per team) go head-to-head in the fi­nal on Fri­day, De­cem­ber 7.
