Kathleen’s 60th helps a great cause

- By SARA GAHAN

KATHLEEN NOBBS from Woodland Park in Arklow celebrated her 60th birthday with a twist last week in the Coolgreany Inn.

The Coolgreany native held a family fun day and evening entertainment to help Arklow Cancer Support and raised more than €1,400. Kathleen asked guests to donate towards the worthy cause instead of giving her gifts.

In the evening guests were entertained by a marvellous show. Kathleen’s nephew Shane Murphy, along with his wife Anne Marie, performed a tribute to Johnny Cash and June Carter, a dance act was performed by Laura Gannon and students, local comedian Myles Carroll took to the stage, Myles and Thomas Clare did a one-act play, music was provided by John Rushe, Ray Finn played the bagpipes and a Christy Rushe did a Richie Kavanagh tribute.

‘It was an excellent evening,’ said Kathleen. ‘At the end of the performances, all the kids stood up and performed the well-known Baby Shark song.’

Kathleen moved to Arklow 15 years ago with her partner Tony Nobbs, who is originally from England but met Kathleen in Coolgreany. They had three children – Alan, Stephanie and Sarah. Her parents, Sarah and Henry Hughes from Coolgreany, have sadly passed away but were remembered on the night,

Kathleen said she would like to give an overall thank you to those who attended the party; who donated towards the cause; to everyone who performed; and to all the staff at the Coolgreany Inn.
