Unholy chaos at sixth Father Ted Fest
MICKEY Finns was the scene of ‘unholy’ chaos as the Redcross establishment played host to the sixth and increasingly popular Father Ted Fest.
Co-owner Leigh Williams took on the role of Mrs Doyle and ensured that everyone’s tea cup was full to the brim for the duration of the festival.
Murt Rua made for a scarily convincing Fr Jack, complete with loud outbursts and never without a bottle of whiskey in his hand. Paul Burke played Fr Ted.
Staff dressed up as either priests or nuns, while some patrons of Mickey Finns got dressed up for the occasion.
Fr Jack judged the ‘Lovely Girls Competition’ as members of the crowd were invited up for a chat and to showcase their tea and sandwich making capabilities.
‘We had a great night and the event just keeps getting bigger and bigger,’ said Leigh Williams. ‘The night is proving very popular and is now in its sixth year.
‘We also did a number of sketches based on old Fr Ted episodes, including the one where Fr Ted, Fr Jack and Fr Dougal go camping and Fr Noel Furlong, played by Graham Norton, does all their heads in with his dancing. We thought a sketch based on that would be appropriate given the caravan park here in Redcross,’ she said.
