Wicklow duo play part in Foxrock Cabinteely’s Leinster success

-

TWO Wicklow footballers helped Foxrock Cabinteely to their fourth successive Leinster Ladies Senior Football crown in Kinnegad on Sunday afternoon.

Former Éire Óg stars and current Wicklow stalwarts Lorna Fusciardi and Laurie Ahern played their parts in the convincing 4-11 to 1-8 victory over Sarsfields of Laois.

Fusciardi started the game in the halfback line before being replaced by Roisin McGovern. Ahern started on the bench but was introduced in place of corner-forward Hannah O’Neill.

It was their Captain Fantastic Amy Ring who scored 2-4 to help decide the outcome of this game.

A determined and gritty Fox-Cab dominated the early stages, taking a 0-5 to no score lead with points from Tarah O’Sullivan, Hannah O’Neill and three from the boot of inspirational skipper Ring.

Fox-Cab were doing all the damage and were resolute in defence with Dublin’s TG4 All-Ireland Senior winners Hannah O’Neill and Amy Connolly moving the ball well for the reigning champions who eventually stormed to a fully deserved victory to secure the Bill Daly Cup.

Fox-Cab march into the All-Ireland semi-finals, where they will face Monaghan and Ulster champions Donaghmoyne over the weekend of November 17/18.
