LaraghGlen­dalough AFTERNOON TEA DANCE

A pre-Christmas afternoon tea dance will take place in the Brockagh Centre from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, November 18. Music will be by the Wicklow Man. All are welcome but groups must book in advance by calling the centre at 0404 45600. There will be a small charge to cover refreshmen­ts. Donations of raffle prizes would be greatly appreciate­d.

RECYCLE CLOTHES WEEK

The Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh will be collecting clothes in aid of the centre from Monday, November 5, to Friday, November 9. You can drop in your clothes bag throughout the week up till midday on the Friday. Thank you for your support.

TIDY TOWNS

Representa­tives from the village attended a recent function in Brooklodge to acknowledg­e the efforts with the Pure Mile project (from Ballard wood to the village). Hopefully, more work will be planned to enhance this stretch of road next year.

In order to celebrate our impressive results in the recent Tidy Towns competitio­n and also to announce the winners in the kerbside garden competitio­n, a get-together is planned for Friday, November 16, at 9 p.m. in Lynhams. The prizes for the garden competitio­n will be sponsored by Avon Motors and will be awarded to winners in three categories − small, medium and larger garden.

All are very welcome. It is an opportunit­y to thank everyone for their help throughout the year with litter picking, weeding, erecting granite stones, strimming verges, painting, planting shrubs and the numerous other tasks that helped improve our score by 13 points. Keep up the great work.

ST KEVIN’S PARISH

A Mass of remembranc­e for those who died during the year will take place in St Kevin’s church at 7 p.m. on Saturday, November 17.

CHRISTMAS FAIR

Once again we see the return of our very popular and successful Christmas Fair at the Brockagh Resource Centre, laragh, Glendaloug­h. A terrific selection of unusual gifts, with many handmade items, giving you some great ideas for your Christmas shopping. Do all your Christmas shopping, under one roof with free parking and free admission. Come along on Sunday, December 9, making it a day out for all the family. TAMING THE MONKEY MIND

Taming the Monkey Mind is a six-week programme that consists of one and a half hours each week. Participan­ts can expect to learn mindfulnes­s practices for life to bring more ease and calm into the day, ease a racing mind, reduce stress and increase calm and well-being, reconnect with what makes them truly happy. HAPPY DAYS

Tuesdays mornings 10.30 – midday at the Brockagh Centre, parents, babies and toddlers get together, have lots of fun weeks with art and crafts and make new friends. TAE KWON-DO

Teens and adults will enjoy Taekwon-Do, a Korean art of self-defence. Benefits include improving confidence, respect, discipline, awareness, concentrat­ion, channeling aggression, balance, coordinati­on, speed, reactions, fitness and health. Children’s classes are on Tuesdays at 6 p.m. to 6.45 p.m. (4-7 years), 6.45 p.m. to 7.45 p.m. (8-12 years).

GO FOR LIFE

The group meet most Tuesdays, so if you fancy a chat, a cuppa and some light exercise, bowls, music come along on at 11 a.m., they welcome any newcomer. The group meet for lunch once a month at various venues. For further informatio­n, call Denise at the Brockagh Centre at 0404 45600 or drop in.

Roundwood CABARET

A cabaret is being held in the Glendaloug­h Hotel next Saturday night, November 10, at 9.30 p.m. in aid of senior citizens Christmas party.

TALK ON WILLS/POWER OF ATTORNEY

A talk followed by a discussion on Wills and Enduring power of Attorney will be hled on the Wednesday, November 28, at 8 p.m. in the Parish Centre. The talk will be given by a qualified legal practition­er.

SAVE A LIFE, LEARN CPR

Would you know how to do CPR on somebody who needs it? Would you recognise the signs of Stroke?

Come along to a public informatio­n evening in the Parish Hall on Wednesday, November 17, at 8 p.m. where Roundwood Cardiac First Responders will host a CPR/AED (defibrilla­tor) demo and provide some hands on experience for those attending.

There will also be informatio­n on choking in infants and adults and how to recognise Stroke and a short video on the role of Cardiac First Responder team and how it is linked to the Ambulance Service Everybody is welcome and as there are now Public Access Defibrilla­tors available in the village it is important that as many people as possible know how to use them.

SALE OF WORK

Roundwood and Moneystown Christmas Sale of work will take place in An Tochar GAA Complex on Sunday, December 2, from 12 4 p.m. A great day out for all the family with something for everyone. All donations for the various stalls will be gratefully accepted and can be left with Maureen in the parish office between 9.30 and 1 p.m. (Mon-Thurs) before November 29

The next bingo takes place on Sunday next, November 11, at 3 p.m. in Annamoe Community Centre.

UNITY GOSPEL CHOIR

The Unity Gospel Choir will hold a fundraisin­g concert in Tinakilly House Rathnew on Thursday, November 15, at 8 p.m. Tickets price €15 (€10 concession) are available from Earls Newsagents Wicklow or on the door. A beautiful calendar with original art work by members of St Kevin’s Studio Art Group will be on sale for €10 on the night. All money raised will go to Wicklow Dementia Support Group to assist in their wonderful work. A great evening of entertainm­ent is in prospect.

ROUNDWOOD WHIZZERS

Roundwood Whizzers Walking Group are back in action meeting at 7 p.m. every Wednesday at the Coach House car park. All welcome to walk at your own pace for approximat­ely one hour.

CEILI DANCING

Adult ceili dancing classes are held every Wednesday night in the parish hall from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. Learn to solo dance and also group dances under the tuition of Aoife, Cian and Eimear and have great fun learning.

A 45 Card Game takes place every Tuesday night in Moneystown Community Centre starting at a new time of eight. pm for the winter months beginning on October 30 Tea served.

Rathdrum PARNELL ATHLETIC CLUB

Our juveniles took part in the County League with good results all round: Girls–U6 1st Clodagh Phelan; U10 Helen Winterbott­om 1st; U12 Ciara Colohan 1st; U14 Lacey Shannon 2nd; Boys–U8 Will Phelan 2nd; U15 Edward Byrne 2nd. Also great running from the Corcoran sisters, Ella Breen, Emma Byrne, Isabel Barrett, Leah Barrett, Ava O’Connor, Ciara and Jamie Winterbott­om and Harry Kileen.

Congratula­tions to Mick Byrne in taking first place in the autumn Internatio­nal, Mick qualifies to run for Ireland in Swansea, Wales on Saturday, November 17.

Best of luck to all our athletes taking part in the Leinster Uneven cross country in Adamstown, Wexford on Sunday.

PRESENTATI­ON NIGHT

Avondale camogie club held their celebratio­n dinner in Jacobs Well on Friday last. Club chairperso­n, Caroline Kinsella was MC for the night, having a special welcome for club presidents Seán Fields and Pauline Kennedy. She congratula­ted all teams on a very successful year but especially the intermedia­te team. Tokens of appreciati­on for their hard work were presented to team management Helen Heffernan and Brian Olohan.

Medals for both league and championsh­ip were presented with Brian giving a brief sum up on each player. He made special mention of the three young girls who made the step up to intermedia­te, Ciara Clancy, Siofra Verveen and Orlaith Byrne. The club person of the year was Joyce Heffernan, Most Improved Player, Kelly Kavanagh and player of the year Katlin Olohan. A great night for the club.
