Annual pre-Christmas tennis tournament starts next week

-

WICKLOW Tennis Club’s annual Cullen Butcher Turkey Tournament starts on Wednesday, November 21 and details of teams will be circulated to the 120 participants this week.

Hard luck to the U18 Boy’s who were defeated in the Class 2 DLTC Semi-Final on Sunday. They came up against a strong team from Sutton and despite their best efforts it was not be their day, nevertheless they had a great campaign.

Both the First and Seconds Men’s teams and the ladies First team have their quarter final matches this week.

The club was delighted to welcome lots of new faces last week with the inaugural ‘Ladies into Tennis’ and ‘Active Retired Tennis’.

On Tuesday the ladies were unable to take to the courts due to downpours but coach Ashley Wynne did some indoor introductory instruction which was followed by tea and a chat. On Wednesday the active retired group, some of whom had never played tennis before, had their first session and greatly enjoyed themselves.

The tennis club was also delighted to welcome back their friends in The Blue Dolphins and are very grateful to the volunteers who came along to assist coach John Brady with delivering the class.
