1Renowned Irish singer songwriter Declan O’Rourke will play the Courthouse Arts Centre, Tinahely on Saturday, November 17. A performer of great subtlety and versatility, he will be right at home in this intimate venue. O’Rourke’s debut album in 2004, Since Kyabram, debuted at Number 5 on the Irish charts and scored double-platinum sales, earning him three Meteor Awards nominations including Best Male, Best Album, and Best Folk/ Traditional Album, as well as landing him a recording contract with V2. Winner of Best Original Folk Track RTE Radio 1 2018. In 2018 he released his new album ‘Chronicles Of The Great Irish Famine’. Fifteen years in the making, this epic song cycle combines the best of traditional Irish music and the heart of modern song-writing to present a series of extraordinary true tales from the most dynamic period in Ireland’s history. He has also appeared on two seasons of the popular music show Other Voices, as well as season five of BBC’s Transatlantic Session alongside Alison Krauss and Amos Lee. Doors open at 8.30 p.m. and tickets are on sale at €25/23.
2The Whale Theatre in Greystones will play host to An Evening of Extraordinary Ideas on Saturday, November 17. Curated by Wicklow man Brian O’ Regan, it boasts a stellar line-up of performers and speakers including sharp-witted comedian Danny O’ Brien, musicians Alex Petcu (percussion) and Lina Andonovska (flute), groundbreaking movement from Rob Heaslip Dance and much more. A panel of festival directors and arts leaders will lead a discussion on the arts and cultural sector in Ireland. Doors open at 6.30 p.m. while the show starts at 7.30 p.m. Tickets cost €20 (€18 concession) and are available from The Whale.
3A magical candlelight walk takes place in Avondale House and Forest Park, Rathdrum, on Sunday, November 18. The walk is being hosted by Ballinacor Community Project and is suitable for young and old alike. It’s also a nice romantic walk by candlelight for all couples. The walk, weather permitting, will take place from 5.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. and costs €5 per walker and €15 per car. Refreshments will be provided at the end of the walk.
4The Stratford Lodge annual Bazaar held on Church Lane, Baltinglass, takes place on Saturday, November 17. There will be stalls, cakes, produce, toys, books and bric-abrac to purchase. A bake-off competition and art competition will also take place, costing €3 to enter either. Entries must be in place between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. and the judging will commence at 3 p.m. Bake off entries must be on paper plates. Both competitions are open to 5-8 year olds, 9-12 year olds and 13-17 olds.
5Kick Start Healthy Eating will take place at Bray Library on Eglinton Road on Friday, November 16. Right Food 4U will host the event, which takes place at 11 a.m. This suits people who know they should be eating healthier, but just don’t know where to start, or are overwhelmed by all the information. Participants will learn how to have more energy and feel better in themselves. This talk will include very practical tips on healthy eating, which is not the same as going on a diet. It will feature practical and simple tips to get started.
6Christmas is coming early to the Wooodenbridge Hotel as a festive ladies’ event complete with Christmas market and fashion show takes place on Friday, November 16, in aid of Wicklow Hospice. A night not to be missed, the gala evening event will begin with a Christmas Market featuring a selection of hand-picked craftspeople, beauty and clothing retailers. Guests will be able to mingle amongst the stall holders with a glass of prosecco in hand, while soaking up the Christmas atmosphere. A seasonal three course meal will follow, punctuated by three fashion shows, after the serving of each course. A prize will be presented to the best dressed guest and music will be provided by Today FM DJ Phil Cawley. Tickets are now on sale at the Woodenbridge Hotel at €50.
7Pat Shortt brings his brand new show ‘Hey!’ to the Arklow Bay Hotel at 8 p.m. this Saturday, November 17. Following the sell-out successes of ‘The Hall’, ‘Selfie’ and ‘How’s Tings?’ and fresh from starring roles in the play ‘A Skull In Connemara’ and the film ‘The Belly of The Whale’, Ireland’s best loved comedian presents his latest quirky look at Irish life.
