PENDLE WAR POETRY WIN

Congratula­tions to Coláiste Chraobh Abhann’s second year student Bobby Dowling, who won first prize in the under-18 Pendle War Poetry Competitio­n which was announced this week.

This prestigiou­s poetry competitio­n was open to entrants from both the UK and Ireland to commemorat­e the centenary of the end of the Great War, which is marked every year on November 11 on Armistice Day.

Bobby’s winning poem titled ‘What’s the Point of War? questions the terrible futility of war through a moving conversati­on between a mother and her son. It depicts the personal heartbreak of a parent who is struggling to come to terms with why her child went off to fight and what was gained from his sacrifice.

The TY Enterprise classes presented their mini companies on Wednesday, November 7, in the GP Area with an array of various products and businesses on display.

From personalis­ed cups, Junior Maths board games, original framed shell paintings and locker organisati­on services, there was something for everyone to invest in with some nice ideas for some gifts for Christmas.

Each TY enterprise group were required to present their company in an interview with a member of the business community before promoting their product to the school.
