Trio departing Bray Wanderers

- DANIEL GORMAN Sports reporter

IT is less than three weeks since Bray Wanderers’ season ended but already the revolving door at the Carlisle Grounds has been set in motion.

Boss Gary Cronin is yet to confirm any signings but it appears he will not be securing the signatures of John Sullivan, Ger Pender or Evan Moran for 2019 with the trio all seemingly confirming their departure from the club on social media.

With a transfer embargo placed on the club following the struggles to pay the players’ wages, Cronin was unable to make any signings during his first few months in charge but his hunt to amass a squad to take on the First Division is already underway.

Moran only joined the club in February. He was initially signed as a deputy to Blackburn Rovers loanee Aaron Dillon but the Galway man returned to Ewood Park following an injury and Moran grabbed his opportunities with both hands and enjoyed many fine performances between the sticks for the Seagulls.

Posting about his own future, the shot-stopper said: ‘I’d like to thank everyone at Bray Wanderers for the last year; the fans, players and staff. Despite a tough on and off the field I’ve enjoyed my football there. I wish the club the best for the future going forward and look forward to see what the next chapter brings for me’.

Sullivan has enjoyed two spells with the Co. Wicklow club but his time on the pitch was limited this season due to injury and he too looks to have called time on his spell with Bray.

Sullivan: ‘Thanks to all involved in Bray Wanderers. I have gained a vast amount of experience as a player but most importantly as a person. For those reasons and more I say thank you. I wish you all well for the future.’

Pender has also enjoyed two different spells with his hometown club and also holds a record having scored in five consecutive league matches for Bray in 2016.

Despite that feat, he found himself thrust down the pecking order the following season and failed to hit the net once as he endured limited minutes on the pitch but became a regular starter again in the second half of 2018.

‘I had two great years playing for my hometown club and one I wish to forget about. But I enjoyed every single game I played in the Carlisle and I hope that the club can get back to where it belongs. The supporters and volunteers deserve it more than anyone! As a local Bray man I’m sure I will see a lot of you around the place but thanks for all the support over the last few years! It’s been great! I’m looking forward to seeing where the next road takes me.’
