Strong finish does the trick for Dearg

-

Division 3

Leaders Dearg Celtic scored four goals in the final half an hour to eventually shake off the stubborn attentions of Ashford Rovers.

Chris Sillery fired Ashford in front early on and they came close to doubling their advantage shortly before the interval, but Jay Farrell saw his header well saved.

However, the Redcross side took control after the hour mark and wrapped up the victory with goals from Michael Murphy (two), Martin Cullen and Jamie Power.

Meanwhile, Arklow Town fought back from the concession of an early goal to eke out a 2-1 win over Dargle Rovers.

Adam Kelly hit the back of the net for Dargle after five minutes, but Kyle Dowling drew Town level with fantastic strike.

Joe Dowling added a similarly spectacular effort before half-time to edge his side in front and it proved to be the winner.

Aughrim Rangers edged out Coolboy Rangers by the odd goal in seven with Shane O’Keefe, Ben Lecky, Shaun Doyle and Conor Phelan getting on the scoresheet for the winners.

Pat O’Toole Division 1

Greystones missed the chance to draw level with St Anthony’s at the top of the Pat O’Toole Division 1 table as they were held to a 1-1 draw by fellow high-flyers Avonmore.

The prolific Anthony Fermoyle hit the back of the net for Greystones, with Fiachra Ryan replying.
